Follow these common sense advice to avoid problems with mail.

Suspect Everyone: Most unsolicited email is spam someone just covered with the hope of making a sale or generate a list. However, there are some unscrupulous players out there who try to scam you. Never reply to these unsolicited emails. Even "unsubscribe" notifies the sender that your e-mail is used. If this sounds of interest and they list a website, type it into your browser to verify.

"Just Say No" to Porn: You know when bad things come on the screen. Join Users Anonymous: Unless you're involved in Internet Commerce of some sort (and want the exposure as much as possible), you must pull your ads from the Directory of important services. You've probably never (knowingly) signed first, but chances are, your e-mail address is included in some large databases. Directories such as Bigfoot, Infospace, Switchboard, Yahoo People Search, WhoWhere and are pleased to take your listing down if you ask them to.

Scramble Your Eggs: Encrypt and digitally sign all your sensitive messages. It's a little pain, but it is enough to burn a time to know how important it is. If your mail software does not support robust encryption, you can download freeware encryption software PGP. Leave room for the geeks at MIT (with no intention of Matt). Do not Eat the Cookies: Cookies are trackers that remember your IP address. They are handy for sites you use often and do not want to go through the process of validation.
