In recent months, Google Mail has experienced several incidents, making it inaccessible. However, during such failures, you can not access your messages. Here is how to fix it.
To avoid this, you'd better make a regular backup of their messages. That's what makes GMail Backup, a free application that you find on the site www.gmail-backup.com/download.
- Install the program and run it.
- Enter your username (eg abc@gmail.com) and your password.
- Click on Directory to select the backup folder of your messages.
- Finally, click OK, then Backup. If you receive an error message, start your browser, go to your Gmail page and click on Settings and then Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Activate, if it is not, Enable IMAP.
Once the transfer is complete, you will find in the selected folder all messages as EML files, readable by Outlook, Windows Mail and most email programs. The Restore button (in the same window as the backup button) lets you put all your messages in Gmail.
