    Remove Adds from Yahoo Messenger

    Since Yahoo! has released Yahoo Messenger 8, they started displaying ads at the bottom of the window. Yahoo! Messenger, itself is crowded with stuff like Radio, plugins etc. and with ads it looks very ugly. It gets really annoying when they display flashy animated ads.

    If you are among one who wants to remove Add from your Yahoo messenger, Try this:-

    Run regedit
    Goto HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Yahoo -> Pager -> View

    Inside the 'View' key there are a several other keys... go through each one and edit the 'banner url' string to your liking. It even works if the string is left blank (this causes it to look as if ads were never even implemented)!

    Re: Remove Adds from Yahoo Messenger

    If you are using 9 Beta than there is another best tip for you. Go through this steps:-

    1. Exit Yahoo! Messenger.

    2. Backup C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe by creating a new copy.

    3. Download a hex editor (recommended: HxD)

    4. Open C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe in the hex editor.

    5. Go to the offset 295928 (in HxD: Search/GoTo)

    6. Look at the right column and replace y from “y.m.s.g.r.a.d.s” with p

    7. Save the file and close your hex editor.

    Thats it... You are done!

    But remember, by trying this you are breaking Yahoo! Messenger’s terms of service..

    Please Remember the advertisements in Yahoo! Messenger are there to pay for us to chat for no cost, and fund Yahoo!, and so you should not block the ads. You may even find something in the ads that appeals to you!
