How to change monitor timeout from Command Line in Windows Vista

If you want to quickly change the monitor timeout using the command line, it's actually pretty simple. The powercfg utility can be used on the command line to change power configuration settings, including the monitor timeout. Windows Vista users can use change your monitors timeout from with in command line. This would very useful if you quickly want to change your monitors timeout without accessing the control panel. There are two commands that we need to use depending upon the type of power that is used by the computer as it can be either powered in AC mode or in DC mode:
powercfg -Change -monitor-timeout-ac 60 (in AC mode)
powercfg -Change -monitor-timeout-dc 60 (in DC mode)
The numeric value 60 here tells Windows Vista to timeout the monitor after 60 minutes, so you can put the value that suits your requirement. You can also put 120. This will change the monitor setting to stay on for 120 minutes while on AC power. You can use -dc at the end to change the setting for when you are on battery power.

Re: How to change monitor timeout from Command Line in Windows Vista

It drives me crazy at what time my monitors off at the same time as I watch a movie. To change the monitor timeout with the command line, it is in fact quite simple. Powercfg utility is able to be used within the command line to change the power configuration settings, with the monitor timeout, which is what we utilize here.
    The command syntax:
    Powercfg -Change -monitor-timeout-ac 120
This will modify the monitor setting in the direction of stay on for 120 minutes at the same time as on AC power. You can use -dc at the end to modify the setting for at what time you are resting on battery power.
