How to restore Missing Folders to the Group Policy Editor

Hello friends,

I want to restore my Missing Folders to the Group Policy Editor in Windows XP SP 2.I have heard from my friends that it's possible but don't know how to do it.

Can anyone tell me what steps i need to follow.

Intel Dual core 2.66 Ghz
915 MSI Motherboard with Intel chipset
512 mb RAM
80gb HDD

Sure i will help you out with this you need to follow the below steps for the same:-

1. Click on Start.
   
2. Click on Run and type gpedit.msc
   
3. Now expand Computer Configuration
   
4. Right-click Administrative Templates, and click Add/Remove Templates.
   
5. Click on Add.
   
6. Select the file system.adm and click on Open
   
7. Now finally click on Close.

There is one more method of doing it by copy the file system.adm from the C:\Windows\INF folder to C:\Windows\system32\GroupPolicy folder.

By default in Windows XP installation, the following ADM files are already there:

• conf.adm
• inetres.adm
• wmplayer.adm
• wuau.adm
• system.adm

If anyone of the .adm files are missing restore the missing folder in the Group Policy Editor. If that does not work, before that make sure filtering is turned off.

For Turning off the Filtering follow the below Steps:-

1. Click on Start and type gpedit.msc in run Option.
   
2. Now Expand Computer Configuration, and select Administrative Templates
   
3. From the View menu, click on Filtering
   
4. Now uncheck the following checkboxes:
   
   
   • Filter by Requirements information
   • Only show configured Policy settings
   
   
5. Finally click on OK.
