First try this go to File > Open and change the "file of type" to Word 97-2002 and see if that works. If its not working try this steps:-
1. Start Microsoft Works and open the document that you want to convert to a Word document.
2. Choose the "File" menu and click "Save As" to bring up the "Save As" dialog box. Browse to choose which folder you would like to save this document in.
