Attribute Changer
In NTFS particularly, Windows maintains a large collection of attributes attached to each file. However, the user interface of the browser that makes it difficult to intervene in some states as the basic write protection, compression or attribute that allows to hide a file.
Attribute Changer 6 is a small free utility, which provides access to extended attributes of files, starting with the dates attached to each file.
Begin by downloading the software by following this link. Then install it by following the wizard. The software does not run immediately because it fits directly accessible in the context menus of Windows Explorer.
- Open the My Computer (or Computer in Vista) and navigate to a file to edit.
- Select the file and click the right mouse button.
- In the context menu, select Edit Properties ...
- In the File Properties tab, check the box Change date and time.
- Make sure the box Adjustments is unchecked
- You can adjust dates and times of Creation, Modification and Last Access.
- Click the right mouse button on one of the date fields to display a menu handy. This allows you to save - one click - the selected field to the current date or to put all the date fields (Creation, Modification, Last Access) to the current date.
- Once the correct values entered, just click Apply and OK to accept the changes.
Notes:
- Attribute Changer allows also to adjust the attributes of files. You just need to click on a folder on the right mouse button and choose "Edit Properties". The software displays a tab dedicated to the properties of the folder, and a tab to assign the properties of all files it contains.
- Attribute Changer not working on 64-bit edition of Vista or Windows 7.
