Fix: Windows Vista "Folder Options" inaccessible !

It can happen after an infection for example, that the module "Folder Options" disappear from the Control Panel under Vista as under XP.

In the same way as Windows Explorer, "Folder Options" is missing from the Tools menu

And with Vista, the "Folder Options and research" is present but grayed out in the Organize menu of the explorer.

The following procedure will help you to lift the restriction and reactivate the module Folder Options.

    • Start the registry editor: Start / Run, type regedit and click OK.

    • First, back up the registry as follows:

      • Under Vista, click Computer to highlight it.
      • Under XP, click on My Computer to highlight it

      • On the File menu, click Export.

      • Enter a name for the backup: SaveReg (for example) then click Save. The backup is saved by default in the Documents folder.

    • Back in the Registry Editor, on the left side of the window and clicking on the next to small files, pull down the key:

      Code:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Policies \ Explorer

    • Click Browse to highlight.

    • On the right side of the window, look in the Name column, the value called NoFolderOptions.

    • Double-click NoFolderOptions and in Value data, enter 0 (zero).

    • Click OK and exit the registry by the cross in the top right of the window.

    • Restart the PC <- Important.

The module "Folder Options" should again be accessible.

You have to go to the control panel (switch to classic view) then select Folder Options, and the view tab, then under Advanced Settings, you can pick the options you prefer.
