How to Disable Writing to USB Drives

Hi friends,
I want to have my Pen/ Flash drive Write Protected in Windows Vista. I know that it is possible.But don't know how to do it can anyone tell me the steps for write protecting my USB drive.I am using Windows Vista.

Sure i will help you out with this you need to follow few steps:-

For Enable

1. Type gpedit.msc in Start Menu Search box and hit enter or type same in Run dialog box.
   
2. Browse to Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ System\Removable Storage Access.
   
3. On the right side pane, right click on the option named Removable Diskseny write access and select Properties.
   
4. Select Enabled and click Apply.

For Disable

• You Need to follow the same steps as above just in step 4 Select Disable.

There is one more way of doing the same by going into registry.Following are the steps for it.

1. Open Windows Registry Editor by typing regedit in Run dialog box.
   
   
2. Go to the following key:
   
   
   
   • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
   
   
   
3. Create a new DWORD value called WriteProtect and set it’s value to 1 to enable write protect.
   
   
4. Close the registry editor and reboot.

Thats very good now i can make my pen drive write protected, but is it possible that the same tweak works in Windows XP SP 2 or not.

Yes it works i have tried the same tweak in Windows XP SP2 it works and Enjoy.
