Hi friends,
I want to have my Pen/ Flash drive Write Protected in Windows Vista. I know that it is possible. But don't know how to do it can anyone tell me the steps for write protecting my USB drive.I am using Windows Vista.
Sure i will help you out with this you need to follow few steps:-
For Enable
- Type gpedit.msc in Start Menu Search box and hit enter or type same in Run dialog box.
- Browse to Computer Configuration\ Administrative Templates\ System\Removable Storage Access.
- On the right side pane, right click on the option named Removable Diskseny write access and select Properties.
- Select Enabled and click Apply.
For Disable
- You Need to follow the same steps as above just in step 4 Select Disable.
There is one more way of doing the same by going into registry.Following are the steps for it.
- Open Windows Registry Editor by typing regedit in Run dialog box.
- Go to the following key:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
- Create a new DWORD value called WriteProtect and set it’s value to 1 to enable write protect.
- Close the registry editor and reboot.
Thats very good now i can make my pen drive write protected, but is it possible that the same tweak works in Windows XP SP 2 or not.
Thanks in Advance.
Yes it works i have tried the same tweak in Windows XP SP2 it works and Enjoy.
