Personally, I like to know all information when I am working with files, so I like Details View too. In fact, whenever I get a new computer, changing the default folder view to show file details is high on my list of things to do to make Windows usable.
So to change the default view of folders in all the drives just follow the given steps.
For Windows XP:
First, set a particular folder to the view you want. Select View, then Details (or whatever you prefer).
To make that the default, select Tools, then Folder Options. Click the View tab, then the Apply to All Folders button.
For Windows Vista :
To set an open folder to the view you want, select Views, then your preferred view, such as Details.
To make that the default, select Organize, then Folder and Search Options. Click the View tab, then the Apply to Folders button.
