The Stop button in Windows Vista does not put off the computer, in fact it is a hibernation. It is better to switch off the computer to reduce electricity consumption. For former users of XP, this button is a real curse.
You can change the behavior of the Stop button. To do this:
- Go to "Control Panel"
- Select "System and Maintenance"
- Select "Power Options"
- Click on "Change Plan Settings" link
- Click on "Change Advanced Power Settings" link
- Expand "Power button and lid". From here, you can change the options:
- Power button action - Changes the hardware power button action
- Start menu power button - Changes the power button on the Start Menu
- Expand "Start menu power button"
- In the drop-down list that appears, select "Shut down"
- Click on "OK" button
