is it possible scan barcodes using Webcam

Actually I am having webcam which is connected to the PC. So I would like to know that is it possible to use to webcam for scanning the bar code. Because when ask this with one of my friend he told me that it is possible to do. But still I want to confirm from here and if possible please show me with the procedure.

I have not tried doing this but it is possible to scan the barcodes using webcam. And regarding the procedure even I am looking for this.

To use your webcam for scanning barcode then for this follow the steps provided down here :-

1) Download the software for barcode reader from the net.
2) Now install and run this software.
3) This software will let your webcam turn in to barcode reader.
4) Now open your webcam by going through the start button
5) Open the page where you want to scan barcode.
6) After move your cursor to that particular box.
7) Now place your webcam to particular barcode you want to scan for.
8) Now your webcam will automatically read the data from the barcode.
