The cookies are a kind of text file stored on computer by the website for tracking the user related information. The website sends a cookie along with a unique session identifier for the individual using the website. By using cookies the site can accurately define the total number of user visiting daily. It can also define the total number of new as well as old visitors. Whenever the first time a visitor arrives, the site creates a new ID in the database and sends the ID as a cookie. The next time the user comes back, the site can increment a counter associated with that ID in the database and know how many times that visitor returns. In order to make the web much easier to navigate the web creates the cookies. In sort if we need to get the accurate information about the site visitors we required cookies to be store on each and every visitor on our website.

Re: How Do Websites Use Cookies?

A cookies consists of values, address of website, and expire date of the cookies. Basically the name and value are assigned by the website. And no other website can access the cookies set by another website even if it know the cookies name. The cookies can store up to 4000 character of data about the user and browser used by that user. If the user has the particular name for the cookies the website can request for that cookies and retrieve the data store on that cookie. It is up to the website owner to decide the life time of the cookies it can be of one hour or it can be long term depends on the condition for what purpose the website wants to store the cookies on the user machine.
