Migrating from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.5

Well I am not aware of the IIS 7.5 at all. I am looking to upgrade the IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.5. I am unable to figure out how can I migrate to IIS 7.5. I am having an application by using the .Net framework 2.0. Let me know if you are having any specific solution to get the requirement of mine. Any help on this particular matter would be highly appreciated. Thanks a lot in advance.

I am suggesting following steps which you can do to perform migration from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.5.
    • You need to create a back up of the config of the Destination IIS 7.5 web server.
    • You should verify the dependencies on the source of the IIS 6.0 web server.
    • You have to enter the necessary software component on the IIS 7.5
    • You should use the -whatif flag to verify the migration of the outcome,
    • Finally you need to use the Web Deploy sync to perform the migration.

Re: Migrating from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.5

When you are supposed to install the Web Deploy then you have to see that you have installed .Net Framework 2.0 on the computer of yours. If you have not installed on the computer of yours you have to try to install the Web Deployment Tool installation on the computer of yours. So I am hoping that the thing which I have mentioned over here would be useful to get the requirement of yours .

Re: Migrating from IIS 6.0 to IIS 7.5

You should always create the back up of the destination IIS 6.0 web server configuration before you deploy to migrate to the IIS 7.5. in order to create the back up you need to use the AppCmd.exe command. This particular tool is located at the %windir%\system32\inetsrv folder. So you should use the command which I have mentioned over to create the back up and let me know whether it is helpful to you or not.

You should have installed the following service on the computer of yours.
    Windows authentication
    • HTTP redirection
    • ISAPI filters (only supported in IIS 7 classic pipeline mode)
    • ASP
    • ASP.NET
    • ASP.NET

You have to see that all the above mentioned service are installed on the computer after installing the IIS 7.5 web server.

You need to install additional object if you are wanted to include at the time of the migration.
    1. Custom .NET assemblies which are available at the Global Assembly Cache
    2. custom directory path which is not included at Web site paths
    3. Registry keys
    4. Custom COM components

You can above mentioned files by using the manifest files.
