What does this message mean “This extension will have access to your browsing history and private data on all websites?”

When I click to set up an extension I get a memo saying: "This extension will have right to use to your browsing history and confidential data on all sites." When you say "private data on all web sites", what does that mean? What data do you mean? Am I going to install the extensions have access to passwords for websites that Chrome remember? I'm basically looking to know what kind of "private facts" is an extension of Chrome could have access to what can make intelligent decisions about security; I can install the extensions, and can handle my "private data" intelligently. Any information you have would be respected.

Chrome extensions have an apparent file that specifies which pages you went to, the extension may interrelate. The extension you are trying to set up might need right of entry to all the pages you went. Some extensions you want to access any page you visit, for legitimate reasons. Most, in reality, if the extension does nothing to your sheet, you will receive this warning when you install the extension. The extensions cannot access the passwords are stored in the Password Manager that is built into Chrome. It could, however, have access to the information you put forward to websites, including passwords and other private data. But it would have to be built for that purpose. It all comes down to whether you trust the source or not. The seller can not hide how the expansion works, so that an extension of rouge would likely have a short life.

Depending on the extent of the installation, extension might need legitimate access to several things to accomplish its purpose. For example, if you see the memo that the extension may have right of entry to "your personal data on all web sites", this usually means that the extension is the inclusion of scripts contained in a page. Content is used scripts to make changes to what is shown on a page. An ad blocking extension is an example of this because it is necessary to transform the implementation of the page to not display ads. In this case, the ability to alter the content of the page provides a preferred functionality. However, that ability: the extension may be able to read the information presented on the page, which includes personal data. This does not mean you will do this or do something nasty with it, but if the author of the extension is mean-spirited and its extension built specifically for this purpose. My opinion to all technology users to download only the extensions of the authors you know and believe them.

This is no dissimilar from the threat you take when installing software in general and the same risks that is present in other browsers, install extensions / add-ons. It is said that, we have done and continue doing many things to try to diminish the possible harm that can be caused by dangerous extensions. For example, we impose granular access permissions and contact to some sites instead of all sites, to separate the extension code of web page code to decrease the capacity of dangerous websites to infect extensions good, and much more. You can interpret more about safety and Chrome extensions in a very useful blog of my references list. Please note that Google may also eliminate any dangerous extension of the gallery and disable the extension for accessible users exposed. You may report dangerous extensions using the link "Report abuse" gallery page of the extension particulars. Hope this helps!

It would be nice if the extensions can be classified with a rating system for security. A start would not have access to 5 stars could be that it has full access. In this way the consumer can decide which extensions to download. This will also force developers to make extensions that are the lowest level of access and give users greater visibility of what extensions are actually doing. A consumer browsing trend is very precious data to any advertiser.

"It's possible, but we hope not to do" view does not make me feel comfortable. If there is a risk opening this should be handled. Most third-party extensions are chrome and tens I use them. Who has the time to control what you do each time before installing and also after each update? The extensions are very useful features that make life easier and make people prefer chrome. It would be very upset if we can not use them safely.

It is likely that if an extension is additional than a thousand users, the code has been reviewed at least someone so its probably pretty safe, although it would be good for any length of more than 1k users were reviewed by Google hired a programmer to ensure such security, Google could add your "Star of security", the only problem with that is updated, someone could do wrong, or its extension first super useful and therefore users have ~ 2k, then it would change the code in an update of an automatic extension without going through this system.
I do not know if it's chrome, but I'm sure it could be configured to limit the extensions when https sites are being used and / or blocking them from obtaining any user data fields, especially those marked for passwords or bank account information, or social security number, especially if such extension is allowed to send outgoing data, but if you are worry, you can always use an disguised window with only the extensions you really trust.
