Exchange 2010 and OCS 2007 R2 Installation on the same server?

I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 as my server. I would like to install Exchange 2010 and OCS 2007 R2 on this server. Is this possible? My server is in DC setup. I have tried install one at a time but when I try to install the other one I have Exchange 2010 fails and I have an error message which says "Initialization failed". The description for the error message says it is occurring because connection to the remote server failed due to access is denied. But I have checked everything and still unable to rectify what is giving me this problem. Does anyone over here know why is this problem occurring and how to solve this?

This is well known problem as OCS is not supported on Windows Server 2008 R2. Microsoft has not yet provided any solution to this problem. It is still to come because right now the problem is that if there is any changes made in the OCS code, the changes will need to support Windows Server 2008 R2 which is right now causing the problem. It especially require changes in SSL. So by the time Microsoft officially releases some solution to this or some hotfix all you can do is wait.

Yes Trio is correct. OCS is fully supported on Windows Server 2008 but not yet on Windows Server 2008 R2. The reason behind this is simple Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 is the next generation of the Windows Server operating system and provides significant improvements to the base operating system over Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008. It is expected that the OCS will also be made compatible to Windows Server 2008 R2 very soon.

According to a recent KB article from Microsoft you can now install Office Communications Server 2007 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 computer. All you have to do is first manually install the .NET Framework 3.5.1 by using Roles wizard from Server Manager. Next install the Desktop Experience Features by using Add Features wizard from Server Manager. You may now install the Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Server Roles on the server. Now install previous updates for Office Communications Server 2007 R2. Make sure you have installed updates for Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Server, Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Admin Tool and Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Group Chat Client. For more information how to do this, refer Microsoft KB article 982021.

Although OCS 2007 R2 is now made available to Windows Server 2008 R2, you may still notice this kind of problem where you get messages that indicates the access is denied. The problem has been fixed by in the cumulative update package for Communications Server 2007 R2, Communicator Web Access. You may download the file named Cwamain.msp from the Microsoft Download Center. If you have some other problem or unable to solve this problem then contact Microsoft Support team for assistance.

You can receive the such error message if you have specified wrong user name or password. Make sure that you enter the correct user name and password. It may even occur if you are trying to connect to a remote Exchange 2010 server and the authentication method that you are using is other than Kerberos. It is mandatory that you should be using Kerberos authentication and the HTTP protocol in order to connect to a remote Exchange 2010 server.
