By default, the browser is configured to average, that is to say, it will self-select the windows to block. But if one goes to the Tools button in the top right and then we go into Internet Options, Privacy tab, you will have the full list of settings.
Go into Internet Options->Privacy tab, you will get following settings:
- Weak : Open all pop-ups on sites regarded as safe
- Middle : Locking of the greatest number of window, without excessively penalizing sites that have links opening into new windows
- High : Blocking all pop-ups, no exceptions
For those who do not support pop-ups, the last setting is probably the best, especially because it offers a feature to "override" that is to say, "overrun" by pressing simultaneously the CTRL and ALT then click on a link, opening the new window will be enforced. You keep your hand as a last resort.

Since the same window, you can also add sites to a whitelist on which pop-ups will never be blocked, regardless of the setting chosen below. It may also affect two options:
- The issuance of a sound to warn that a pop-up has been blocked
- The bar display information to give details on the pop-up blocked
