Hi,

I was gettting the same error 8 before, my iChat had suddenly stopped working even though you changed nothing, To eradicate this problem check that both your routers are configured correctly with port forwarding/NAT/DMZ, this is communication error. Firewalls need to be configured correctly as well. To configure Mac OS X firewall, follow these steps to add the necessary ports:
1. From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
2. From the View menu, choose Sharing.
3. Click the Firewall tab.
4. Click New.
5. From the Port Name pop-up menu, choose Other.
6. In Mac OS X 10.3.9 or earlier, in the Port Number, Range or Series field, type in the following, then go to step 7:
5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5678, 16384-16403
In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, in the TCP Port Numbers field, type (you can omit 5220, 5222, 5223 if you don't use Jabber):
5190, 5220, 5222, 5223, 5298
In the UDP Port Numbers field type:
5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403
7. In the Description field type in: iChat
8. Click OK.
To make it work we sometimes have to disconnect and reconnect the router. After the connection works. Those with a Cisco router, you need to NAT SIP _disable_ correction as iChat uses the SIP application, which works well if you do the correction.
iChat requires specific network ports to be opened for proper communication. If users have administrative access to routers, which must be capable of ensuring the proper ports are open and forwarded to their computers. The steps to change the ports on the routers depends on the make and model of router, and users should consult your router documentation for instructions.
