Try downloading the latest network drivers for you adapter. Have tried the other browsers ??? Try to start the browser without add-ons enabled then try to enable one by one to find the problematic add-on, if any.
The general issue is that the display drivers work better with Windows Vista 7. I found this to be true because many has the same problem. So you might want to try some new drivers for Windows screen and try the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Try chkdsk, instead a simple "chkdsk", use the / r after the program's name - type the following at a high CMD and press Enter: chkdsk / r C: (replace C: with other drives you may have, additional invocations of the command, so that all disks are checked.) Just because there is not a crash, does not mean that no events will be logged, or that the events that may be logged will not be helpful.
