The web site is blocked by administrator: 401

One of my chat friend has a website on video games but everytime if I try to login his site I get an error message "401 The web site is blocked by administrator". I have checked under internet explorer tools whether the site is blocked or not, but it isnt? No matter what I try, I cannot enter his website? Can anyone help me out here. Thank you

It is not an error message but a setting in the proxy server that prohibits you from viewing certain websites or so. Here is a way to get around it and solve this issue:

    Go to the command promt

    -type in "ping <the website>"(Ex: "ping www.techarena.in")

-you should see something like this come out:

"Pinging www.youtube.com [208.65.153.251] with 32 bits of data"

-next, simply copy the ip address (the four numbers in the brackets) and put it into your browser like this:

    http://208.65.153.251/

-click on "go" and you should see the site without the error.

Re: The web site is blocked by administrator: 401

There are many ways why a site is blocked so refer to some useful information given below for that:
    1. The router. Resetting the router by unplugging it and plugging it back in won't work. Make sure you used the reset button. This will give you a 404, not 401.

    2. A personal firewall installed on the PC. Windows Firewall and ZoneAlarm are examples. This will give you 404, not 401 though.

    3. Your hosts file. In windows XP it is located in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc. In windows 95/98 it is in c:\windows. This will also give you 404, not 401.

    4. Your browser. If you have placed a website in a restriced zone, you won't be able to access. Check your browser settings to see which ones are there. This will give you a 401 error, not 404. Make sure that cookies are enabled for the website you are trying to visit.

Are you logged in administrator? What is the operating system you are using? Do you have more than one user set up to use your computer? When it first starts, do you have to choose a user name and enter a password? 401 blocked by administrator is the WEBSITE telling you it has blocked your IP. That might be that you ahve been banned from the site for bad behaviour or it might be that they have blocked a whole range of IP numbers from your ISP for some reason.

From Brust: 401 This website is blocked by administrator
Have had same bad trouble, have looked for help for long time but can not find any info that helps:
I am the only user and administrator. I have not blocked the site,
the site does nor require log in; it has not restricted me, (I get in
about 1/3 of the times I try), when I DO get in, the top of each page
has this notice (although it is completely readable):
401 This website is blocked by administrator

But most of the time I only get (nearly) blank pages showing
NOTHING but THAT 401 message across the top.
Never have this troubles with any other site.
    It is: http//csmonitor.com
At dos prompt, when I enter "ping csmonitor.com"
    it indicates responses received from:
    70.42.81.188
But if I try to go to "hhtp//70.42.81.188
I do NOT go to any site, but get the mostly blank page, shown below ,with info about the site, but which is not a regular web site (or a page from one)::

    (copy of page)================================

    Index of/
    Name Last modified Size Description
    ? apc.php 07-Dec-2009 16:05 44k
    site.txt 24-Mar-2010 11.17 120
    usage.txt 24-M ....( etc) .....
    __________________________________
Apache 2.212 (Ubuntu) Server at 70.42.81.188 port 80
    =======================================(end of page.)

My Browser is I.E. ver,8 running in Win XP pro. .
We use a router for 2 PC's. ISP is EXTREME (dsl)
    Any help GREATLY appreciated !
