Is IIS a web server?

I want to create a webserver on my home desktop computer. The web server will be serving just the people on the local area connection. It could be called an intranet website. I want to know what is IIS? Is IIS a webserver? How do i use IIS? Please help me guys!

IIS is a service which will let you setup a web server on Windows Server operating system. It has a pretty easy interface and using it to setup a webserver is pretty simple. All the best!

I am using Windows XP Professional SP3. Can i create a webserver on my computer as IIS is present in my operating system. Do i really need a server operating system to create a web server? Please help me guys, My dad has a computer with a local website hosted on his computer which has Windows 2008 Server Enterprise. Should i use dad's computer or my computer will work?

If you are plaaning to use IIS to host the website on a local area network, but have many people accessing it, [more then 10] then use your dad's computer. IIS on Windows XP supports on 10 incoming connections at a time, the 11th people trying to connect to your computer will not be able to connect. Windows XP has this limitation. If there less then 10 people who will use your website, then your computer will be fine...
