How to remove misspelled words from Firefox

I use FireFox as my default browser. But on the PC at my residence, Kids have added many misspelled words in the firefox dictionary, which creates problem many times for me while working. Is there any way i can remove those misspelled word from Firefox ? Please help

Firefox 2’s inline spell checker has indeed made the web more readable by eliminating those reluctant spelling mistakes. So here's how to remove the misspelling to avoid mistakes while typing in Firefox:-

1. Make sure Firefox is closed.

2. Go to Start, Click on Run and type %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles in the command prompt

3. Find your profile folder, which by default should look something like xxxxxxxx.default.

4. Find the file called persdict.dat inside your profile folder, open it up in your text editor of choice.

5. Now just find the misspelling, delete it, and restart the FireFox.

You're done.

Nice tip.Thanks for sharing this. But i think the tip was for windows. Even i was in search of that. I need the same for my Mac OS X operating system. Could make me how can i do it in OS?

Yeah, you were correct the tip was for Windows Xp and Vista. In case of MC OS X, the persdict.dat file is stored somewhere in

/home/Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<RANDOM-STRING>.default.

Find the file and edit it with text editor to remove the words you don't want.

Once you are done, restart the Firefox.Thats it.



And if any Ubuntu user needs the same than here it is:-

• Open the Terminal (Application >> Accessories >> Terminal).
  
• In terminal write the command gedit ~/.mozilla/firefox/whln812w.default/persdict.dat .
  
• Delete the misspelled word and save the file.
  
• Restart the Firefox and your done.

I tried the above method for Mac and when I get to the Application support there is no Firefox folder. There is one labeled Mozilla, but when I open it there is just an empty folder. I changed a misspelled word once before and don't know how I went about it, but either way now this does not seem to be cooperating and I've got two misspelled words in my dictionary
