    Network address and MAC addresses

    Hello,

I learn that in the method CSMA / CD, the NIC reads the messages that are sent to it. A message contains an address that the address of the recipient network card. How a position that wants to send a message to another position he may know the MAC address of that other post?

Can anyone tell me, since each has a MAC address, what is the IP address as the IP address identify an item on a network and the MAC address is recognized when sending a message from one position to another computer connected to a hub.
Hence, they allow every two (IP and MAC address) routing messages to the right place.
The difference lies in the fact that IP address to identify an item on the Internet while the recognition of a MAC address only occurs on items connected to the same hub or switch?

There are tools available in the Market such as CCGMA which allows to find MAC address and computer name from IP address. You can use it to find MAC address, computer name and IP address of a computer on LAN even out of your LAN range.

Network administrator can use this handy tool to lookup mac address of each computer on the LAN. Can find out who change his IP or mac address for spoofing.

This tool is based on Microsoft Netbios technology. If we want to search a computer's ethernet mac address, you just need to know his computer name or computer ip.CC Get MAC Address also can be used to Wake On LAN. You can use it wake up any computer on your LAN remotely.

    Hello,

As far as i have studied the MAC address and IP address involved in two different time data transport. One at the MAC level, second at the OSI standard, and the IP is at level 3.

For simplicity, the OSI level handles communication between two machines which is been identified by a unique address, i.e via the MAC, manages errors and combines the bits transmitted in frames.

Once done, there are several protocols to manage the content (routing and flow control primarily). IP (Internet Protocol) is one but there are others, such as IPX.

Network adapter cards use a burned-in address, usually called a Media Access Control (MAC) address.

This unique hardware address (called MAC address) is burned into a ROM chip on that network interface card.
Note: this MAC addresses can be changed by you on some hardware e.g. by using some software (this process of changing the MAC address is called 'spoofing')
