Need to open .pps files when e-mailed?

My friend mails me .pps files which are meant to be opened in Powerpoint. Whenever I download, and then I right click and choose open but it does nothing.
The only way I can open it is to go to file where it it has been saved and manually open Microsoft PowerPoint, in PowerPoint, open and find the downloaded file. At that point it runs fine but it is cumbersome to open.
How can I get the files with that .pps extention to open automatically?

PPS files are created by Microsoft Office PowerPoint. PPS files are a common distribution form for PowerPoint presentations and slide shows.

The first question is, do you have PowerPoint? If so, running Microsoft Office's Setup and selecting Repair should do it. If you have the PowerPoint viewer installed, then it may also have a repair option on its Setup. Either can be accessed through Control Panel, Add/Remove programs.

If you have neither of those, you can certainly Click Here to download Microsoft Free PowerPoint Viewer

When I right click and click "open with" there is no choice for PowerPoint. At that point, I choose Browse and locate PowerPoint but when I do that, nothing happens.

Maybe if I can get Powerpoint to be included in the "Choose Helper Application" than I can choose "open with" and maybe it would work.
