Doubts on dos command

Hi,

I tried the following in command prompt and it doesn't work.

C:\>SET test=new^&name

C:\>ECHO %test%

I get new
'Name is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

Any suggestions in how to display & by placing it in a variable?
