Well what i know about Deep Blue Programming is this.
It has a basic chess engine and a very fast processor. It has millions of chess positions in it's memory and compares the current position with it's database. It decides which move is the best for current position and makes its move. The speed with which it searches is really huge - about 200 million chess positions per second. finally, deep blue is not really intelligent or an efficient chess player. It's really a super fast search engine with algoroithm for determining the best chess move for any given position.
