    Exchange SP2 18GB Limit

    Greetings all,
Thank you for your continued support.
    Larry,
I came across this tweak to modify win2k3 SBS to overcome the 18GB limit.

    Modify
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Server name\Private-Mailbox Store GUID
    and
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\Server name\Public-Public Store GUID

The current total size of the .edb and .stm databases is 35GB. I adjusted this to 45GB using the tweak above but still when the database check is done, it is usually dismounted. Everyday at around 10.00am I have to restart MS Exchange related services. Users complain that their outlook is disconnected and cant send/receive.

    Kindly advise.

The behavior is so erratic. Kindly find below event viewer reports on the same

    Event Type: Warning
    Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store
    Event Category: General
    Event ID: 9685
    Date: 25/Jun/2008

    Description:
Exchange store 'First Storage Group\Mailbox Store (ANDYSVR)': The current physical size of this database (the .edb file and the .stm file) is 39 GB. This database has exceeded the size limit of 18 GB. However, the logical free space in this database has not yet been evaluated. Therefore, it is possible that this database contains enough free space to bring its logical size below the maximum size limit.

If the logical database size exceeds the maximum size limit, it will be dismounted on a regular basis.

    Re: Exchange SP2 18GB Limit

Actually the stores growing automatically as necessary to accommodate new data. When you delete data, the stores don't shrink, they then contain "slack" space in place of the deleted data. Hence you need to have 20 GB store, and delete 2 GB of data. By doing this there will be 20 GB store containing 18 GB of data. That's why the entries you posted refer to physical and logical size.

18GB Database size for MS Exchange

Thank you so much all you gr8 guys at techarena. There was an unbelievably small issue that was making those settings not to work. The previous admin had created the dword it but instead of 'Database size limit in GB' he had typed 'database size limits in GB'.
That caused all the trouble. I changed it and its now working fine.

Thank you pals and all the MVPs
