    OWA external access

We are running a SBS 2008 server with several users connected. We are using Cisco 837 router and Barracuda spam firewall. Have also setup OWA on this domain allowing users to access their mails from any web browser. But there seems to be some problem. When I try accessing OWA within Intranet using http://internalip/exchange/ I don’t have any problem, but I do the same using http://www.domainname.com/exchange/ it says “page cannot be displayed.” However I’m still able to access domainname.com, so do you guys think it is a port forwarding problem?

The problem started recently, it was working fine from past 4 months. As a workaround, setup our firewall so that port 80 is forwarded to internalip:80 but I can still not access OWA. Somebody please provide some working solution. Many thanks.

    RE: OWA external access

Probably there is some networking or connectivity problems. Just go through the following steps and see what happens:

    • Re-run the CEICW to ensure the OWA is published to external. Use this KB for more info: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825763/en-us
    • Once done, make sure the Cisco router forwards TCP port 443 to SBS. By default, after you run the CEICW, the OWA will listening on TCP port 443. Therefore, you need to ensure the 443 port is forwarded to SBS.

Now you should be able to access the OWA from external through https://www.domainname.com/exchange/.

Well you can go to MS website for this issues, I had similar issues with my setup, ultimately i found that it was a firewall which was blocking all incoming connections, I added port to my filter list, and it worked.

You can search around MS website here

    Re: OWA external access

    Hi,
I'm having trouble accessing OWA externally. Running Exchange 2003, all rules on firewall have been set correctly. I can access OWA internally without any issue, when accessing from our external IP address I get to the OWA logon screen, once I put the username and password I get "HTTP/1.1 503 Service Unavailable" error. Can someone pls help me?
    Thanks in advance

Just run the CEICW and select Outlook Web Access under Web Services
    Configuration,

    It will fix the problem.

    Hi Bill,
I'm not running the OWA over HTTPS at the moment, I'm testing it out over HTTP, if that works then I will run it over HTTPS. I will try the running the CEICW as you suggested and see...thanks.
