SBS 2003 Rebooting at Random - Bugcheck String: 0x0000008e

There is constant 0x0000008e error when I trying to reboot the server. I am using SBS 2003. Upon reboot there is a continuous error and it is not working fine. I am getting the same error from almost a week and now it is frequent. I am not able to backup the data also. I had checked inside Event log. There are around 30 errors like this. Any idea how can fix it and get rid of the problem. I do not want to install the same from scratch.

I am aware of this issue but the cause can be different. In my case it was because of Symantec AV Corp. Ed. 9.0. My system has started rebooting frequently, i was not able to make out the cause of this issue. However, after carrying out some troubleshooting when i set it to SAV startup rather than System Start, the issue was fixed. For changing it to SAV startup, simply open SAV on the server desktop, choose Configure > File System Auto-Protect > Advanced > startup options and select it form the top left panel. If that's not the case then you can run memtest, there are possibilities that there might be some hardware fault.

Have you tried running updating your Symevent drivers. If you haven't then you can try updating it now and restart the server. I think this issue is due to driver and not hardware. So just give my suggestion a try and let me know if that helps.

Just make sure that you are installing latest Symevent driver. I have checked out Symantec site and its 11.6.4.2. Just download and install it, and restart your server after that. I think that should end your problem as i have come across some more people who were running in to same issue and were able to fix it by installing latest Symevent driver.

You can refer to below article for updating Symevent driver:
