I'm hoping someone can help me. I was in the process of doing a SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 migration using the Microsoft documentation when the 2003 server had a RAID controller failure. We've ordered a new controller but aren't sure of the drive array status.
Questions??
I do have a System State Backup-Can I restore that directly to the new 2011 server and try to recover the mailboxes and data from tape backup?
I was just going to run the prep tool when the controller failed so the schema has not been modified.
There is another domain controller on the network at a remote location, connected by a VPN link. If I have to just start with the 2011, my assumption is that I will have to DCPROMO down and back up the remote server
ANY help would be much appreciated. I'm in a hard spot but I do have a brand new server ready to go if I can't recover the RAID.
System Configuration as is it today
SBS 2003 as the primary DC in the main office (Dell 1800 with failed PERC 4)
Windows Server 2008 at a remote office connected by VPN
They only use the servers for File, Print and Exchange. All other features are not configured.
I inherited this mess from a previous provider that really didn't manage the server. We were brought in to upgrade this to current hardware, etc...
