    SBS 2008: Losing Default Gateway

We had recently installed a fresh SBS 2008. Installation went fine without any error or problem but after installation we started facing some problem with network stack. When we rebooted it for the first time, we found the Default Gateway was missing and required to add it again. Secondly, when we enable VPN Server all LAN connectivity loses connection after 4 to 5 minutes automatically.

At this point the server is also not able to ping itself, it says “General Failure.” Furthermore, if we try running ‘Fix My Network wizard’ it says ‘the server IP address is 10.0.0.2’ whereas it is 10.0.0.1. Any idea what is going wrong? Please advice.

According to your situation the two causes coming to my mind are either you might have removed IPv6 or you have set hyper-v role enabled. Am I right? Also Does this machine have multiple NIC adapters? Or a dual NIC adapter?

Thanks for your reply fiend. As you asked, neither do I have removed IPv6 nor is hyper-v role enabled. But yes, it has Two NICs (HP ML350 G6) but I have kept second NIC disabled from BIOS. So I don’t think it is interfering in Windows.

    Any further help please?

Hello Hayes, first of you all you should check if there is any update available for your BIOS and search updated drivers for the NIC. Because I have seen many times that stack gets initialized with Dual-Port NICs and due to this Windows recognizes it as a new card which reset the settings.

I'm having the same issue. ML350 G6, one NIC, gateway disappears after reboot. Anyone have a solution?
