Exchange Mailbox Store size limit.

The users have now started, for many months now, deleting emails because they are approaching the 75GB size limit of our exchange mailboxes. We are at 52GB. I know they have been deleting emails but it still seems like the 52GB is not shrinking. Is there anything else I can do? I have a SBS 2003 server. What kind of database limit size does SBS 2007 have?

Actually, the SBS 2008 has a "virtually" unlimited store size that is only limited only by disk space. And you can have multiple storage groups.

I think that even with massive deletions the size of the DB won't shrink unless you do an offline defrag because Exchange just keeps it as white space until reused.

You can try to use the Eseutil /D Defragmentation Mode to defragment and compact a database offline. The defragmentation option makes used storage contiguous, eliminates unused storage, and compacts the database, which reduces the database file size. You can also try to configure Deleted Mailbox and Deleted Item Retention. Good retention practices can help you avoid the scenario of having to restore an Exchange 2007 database. With deleted item retention and deleted mailbox retention, there may be no need to restore your Exchange database to resolve the situations listed earlier.
