How do I configure companyweb (WSS 3.0 / SBS 2008) for external account

I want to enable our clients external access to our companyweb via a designated web address. So far, our companyweb works fine externally, if I am trying to access it via the SBS 2008 Remote Workspace externally, it will ask for logon credentials and fails to connect. I have added an alternate access mapping via Sharepoint central admin - https://remote.mydomain.com.au:987 and opened port 987 on our firewall. I have setup a web address pointing to remote.mydomain.com.au and added that as an alternate access mapping. This address has been hosted to an external IP. I am also wanting to understand how I go about setting up this in DNS. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks.

As per your discussion, you should know know how to publish the SBS 2008 Companyweb. If I have misunderstood the problem, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Sorry for this late reply, but we do have the same issue with our SBS 2008.

There is no "SBS Sharepoint" site but a "Sharepoint 80" site pointing to "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\company web80". A directory "C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\WebApp\InternalWebSite" doesn't exist. Everything seems to work (OWA, http://companyweb) but not the remote site on port 987.

I have removed/installed WSS yesterday without any success. There is stillno remote site on port 987 responding. The "Fix My Network" wizard also reports "Windows SBS Sharepoint site does not exist". Unfortunately the wizard is not able to fix this issue.

    Any suggestions highly welcome

Re: How do I configure companyweb (WSS 3.0 / SBS 2008) for external account

I can see it has been some time, and there is no solution...or it might be elsewhere, where I can“t find it. I have been through loads of trouble with our sharepoint site since the newest KB update of microsoft. In the end I ended up uninstalling SP 3.0 and reinstalled a newer version SharePoint 3.0 SP2.

Everything works fine. But as SP automatically installs the sharepoint-80 in a wrong directory I removed it from the ISS site, created it again, renamed it to SBS SharePoint and set the physical path to: C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin\webapp\InternalWebsite.

Internally everything works fine so far. Just not from the outside. In the SBS 2008 Console it shows Companyweb allright, but I cannot do anything in the console and under "status" there is a questionmark under that says "unknown". I have spent an unreasoable amount of time on this issue now including trying and testing all of the above, so if anybody here could be of assistance that would be highly appreciated...
