    Event ID 2424 190 times a day.

Hope you guys have understood reading my subject how annoyed I would have been. I’m running SBS 2008 server which generates Event ID 2424 about 190 times every day, list last 7 days. Let me assure you that this is not because of any user change because company doesn't even touch their sharepoint. They prefer using file sharing. Hope you guys have any information about this annoying error.

This is what listed in Event Viewer:
Event Source Event ID Last Occurence
    Windows SharePoint Services 3 Search 2424 5/5/2009 2:55:38 AM

    Event Details:
The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed.
Fix the errors and try the update again. Context: Application ''Search'',Catalog ''index file on the search server Search''

    Thanks in advance.

Most probably the Event ID 2424 is generated because of improper access mappings in the WSS because it breaks the search service. So the very first thing you need to do is check access mappings are in the default settings. You can do this by going to WSS Central Administration > Operations > Alternate access mappings. Here ensure if it has default mappings as mentioned below:

Apart from this, also refer this Microsoft KB:;en-us;927012

Thanks for the help friend. I checked all settings and mine are exactly the same as you mentioned above, so that could not be the reason. Secondly I applied the solution provided in the KB above. Lets see if it fixes the problem. Will let you know the results.
