wsus 3.0 MMC and XP SP3

My wsus console (wsus mmc) in my workstaion don't work after install XP SP3.

"The MMC do not create the snap-in..." CLSID: FX:{8b6499ed-0241-e032-6508-da4b1c879d7e}

A couple of possibilities (and if I knew the GUIDs of the applications, I suspect I could tell from the CLSID quoted).

[1] Your XP SP2 was running with a pre-release copy of MMC, and the MMC 3.0 (which is installed by XP SP3) isn't compatible with the MSC files on the system. (Though, it should offer to 'update' them.)

[2] The MMC installation simply failed, or is/was otherwise corrupted, before or after, the installation of SP3.

You might try just downloading MMC 3.0 from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907265 and installing it directly.

I'll keep my eyes open for this mishap as I update two systems to SP3 this weekend.

I am having the same problem. I downloaded the MMC 3.0 from the link but I recived the message that was not necessary this instalation because I already have a more recent Service Pack.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the WSUS console.

Unhappy it does not function. Already I removed and I reinstalled and don't work. I try wsus console 3.0 and 3.0 SP1.

I removed .NET Framework 1.1; 2.0 and 3.0 SP1. Restaredt and install .net framework 2.0. The error is not resolved. The wsus 3.0 sp1 do not work.

I have the same problem with WSUS 3.0 sp1 console on Windows XP with SP3.

In one machine I had WSUS 3.0 sp1 console installed in a Windows XP SP2 working just fine. After I’ve installed SP3, the problem happened.

In another machine, I didn’t have WSUS console. them I've installed Windows XP SP3 and after that, installed WSUS 3.0 sp1 console BUT the same problem happened.

It's always the message: "The MMC do not create the snap-in..."
CLSID: FX:{8b6499ed-0241-e032-6508-da4b1c879d7e}

Anybody have contacted Microsoft?

WSUS 3.0 requires MMC 3.0.

Have you installed MMC 3.0?

Yes, I’ve installed MMC 3.0.

The two situations I've described don’t have the same installation order.
In the first one, that was a Windows XP SP2, I’ve installed MMC 3.0 and the WSUS 3.0 sp1 console. It was working perfectly, but after Windows XP SP3, it’s stopped. The error message appears when I try to start the console: “The MMC do not create the snap-in... CLSID: FX:{8b6499ed-0241-e032-6508-da4b1c879d7e}”

In the second situation, I’ve installed SP3 on the top of a Windows XP SP2. The MMC 3.0 does not install in a Windows XP SP3 because the installation says that MMC 3.0 is already installed. Then I’ve installed WSUS 3.0 sp1 console, but the same error message appears when I try to start the console: “The MMC do not create the snap-in... CLSID: FX:{8b6499ed-0241-e032-6508-da4b1c879d7e}”
