cannot get my clients to show up in WSUS 3.0

    Hi

I installed WSUS yesterday on my win2003 server. Everything worked fine. Now i want at least one pc to show up under the computer section in the WSUS program and don't get it right. what i do on the client is the following:

start > run > gpedit.msc > comp config > admin templates > win components > win updates > double click specify intranet microsoft update service location > enable it > in the "set the intranet update service for detecting updates " and the "set the intranet statistics server" box type in http://<servername>:8530 > OK > to enforce the settings go to a command promt and type > wuauclt.exe /detectnow.

If i go to the server and refresh WSUS nothing shows in the computer section. what do i do wrong? PLEASE help me

Do you install WSUS at Port 8530?

If i go to the server and refresh WSUS nothing shows in the computer section. what do i do wrong? PLEASE help me
Are the 2 services running? Automatic Updates + BITS. Have a look in WindowsUpdate.log in %windir% about Errors.

    Got it working - Thanks

Even though i did point the clients to the WSUS server in gpedit it didn't show when i ran the client tool. I had to change the registry setting mannually before it saw the right WSUS server. One would assume if you
change the local policy it will do it automatically

    Hi

It's just a blind shot but try to install Windows Update Agent 3.0 on a client computer manually. I had the same problem and this solved it.

Next time you can try: Start --> run --> gpupdate.exe /force

This command forces a refresh for the group policy and should change the register right away for the right WU settings.

Probably only when the policy is next refreshed; did you try running gpupdate?
