Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader

Kingston MobileLite is a portable Wireless SD Card Reader. it brings you a benefit of streaming videos and images directly from a SD card to a mobile phone or tablet without waiting for a cable connection. you don't require a pc for the same. It is an portable solution for many who are looking for extending their storage solution also. It has as usb port also. from where you can stream a content from the pen drive directly. with simple connectivity it offer you a one way streaming options. You can download the video from the portable card reader to the internal storage of Smartphone or tablet. There are things very limited on this device. Today we are having smart wireless external hard drives, portable media streamer, etc which are more effective when it comes to usage. Even Kingston sells a portable Wi-Fi hard drive with 16 and 32GB storage limit. I had see WD offering a 1GB wireless drive with simple connectivity and long lasting battery life.

Compare them Kingston MobileLite is just an plain card reader. this might be helpful a few years before when regular card readers were widely used. but today we already have so many options for media streaming. the cost of Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader is around Rs.4500. This is way to high according to me. that is because many Smartphone and tablets are coming with usb to go features. That means you can connect a pen drive directly to mobile phone. it would be great if Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader can provide some kind of internal storage. that will add more to the feature and can make the device better. it target wireless streaming where you can attach a MicroSD card through full size card adapter directly. and you can also connect your pen drive. I did not really find this much surprising. After using various external hard drive with wifi, this device looks a bit outdated. we will still checkout what are great points of Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader.

Re: Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader

    Design:

Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader is quiet big in size and it sits vertically on the desk. In terms of portable design this is a bit large according to me. you can use it like a regular card reader by connecting it to your pc through micro usb cable. You can modify the content of a SD Card through this. And if you are not having a pc then you can turn on the wifi and connect your device through that. It does not allow you to move files directly in the memory card, you can just download that to your phone and modify it. this means it offer you a one way streaming solution. To use that you have to download the Kingston MobileLite app from Google Play or from iTune Store depending on your device. It does not work without that. It also offer you a simple battery backup solution. It runs on 1810 mAh battery that can be used for charging your phone mobile phone. But do not expect much from this.

    Top/Bottom:

At the top side there are three lied light. First one is the green that that is also a power on and charging indicator. The next one is for active wifi connection and the last if or internet connection. MobileLite gives you option to connect to internet so that you can get a remote access. I had faced a lot of connectivity failure message when I was trying to connect the device on my wifi.

    Front/Back:

At the front side there is a power button. There is nothing on the back side. As the device is placed vertically you can also checkout the thickness here.

    Left/Right:

Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader

The left side consist of a USB 2.0 connector with Micro USB port. In the regular usb port you can use a pen drive for streaming content. And you can also connect your mobile pone to charge the device. Through Micro USB port you can put the device on charging. A green light will flash while charging. At right side there is a slot for full size memory card. A adapter is provided in the package that can be used to connect Micro SD card also. You can use various cards here. You can also directly connect a camera memory card in this slot.

    Performance:

Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader

Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader is ideal if you are not much serious about the features part. that means you don't want a external storage or a very sleek device. Then it would be helpful for wifi streaming. a benefit here is that you have a media streamer with a card reader both at the same point. In other portable wifi device you cannot insert your SD card. You have to use a pc for that. But in Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader you have that options. it can be more helpful if it provides multiple card slots of different types and a little bit of internal storage. it already in big in size and Kingston can use the design to add a 16GB or 32GB storage in it. Then it would be a value for money product.

    Conclusion:

Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader falls back in the race of portable wifi device, but it is a good wireless card reader. There are lot of limitation that makes this product a bit less useful for the users. like you cannot move your Smartphone or tablet files in the card reader on wifi through MobileLite app. you can just stream them. I had tried copying the files from Smartphone internal storage to the memory card that is connected to MobileLite. The app crashed instantly. It happened regularly so this means it is not very stable to use if you want to move your videos or photos. MobileLite apps works nicely when you are streaming video. it crash while connecting to internet and while transferring files. we can expect a more better version in the coming time from Kingston. Kingston MobileLite Wireless SD Card Reader cost around Rs.4500 on eBay. This is a high price for a wireless card reader.

    Pros:
    • Portable Wireless Card Reader
    • USB 2.0 Port Connectivity
    Cons:
    • No internal Storage
    • Costly
