    Khet 2.0 Laser Game

Khet 2.0 is an award winning chess type strategy game which is an enhanced version of Deflexion. It is based on Egyptian theme; this game is a great brain tonic. A bit entertainment and lots of strategy. The gameplay consist of moving the pieces out of the board through light reflection. In chess we plan on the basis of moves. But in Khet you have to virtually identify a pathway how the laser light will travel through reflection and where it is going to end. It has simple rules with 3 layouts. Once you are expert in this you can create your own. The motive of this game is to kick out Pharaoh from the board to win this game. It is similar like killing the King in Chess board-game. The game involves lots of strategy. Here you are using a laser beam to kick out opponent’s pieces. Sometime this is not easy. But as you keep playing you will know how to properly place your pieces and make the correct light reflection pathway. The game comes with rules that make it easy. But it takes a bit of time to understand it properly. And adjusting your mindset with the laser path can also be confusing. This is due to the tricky gameplay. One thing is sure that this game is capable of boosting your thinking power to some extent. In chess you have to remember lots of things, while in Khet you just follow the light. It has a safe Class 1 laser. Still it is recommended to avoid the laser to direct eye exposure. There are in total 26 pieces. This are divided into pack of 13 (Red/Silver) for each users. The silver always starts the game first. If you are completely confused how to begin then just test out the Android version of this game. Play it for a while to get proper understanding of the gameplay. The AI of android edition is designed by Don Dailey (Author of Komodo Chess Engine).

    Design:

Khet 2.0 board design consists of 8 rows and 10 columns. In total there are 80 squares. There are 10 reserve squares for two color pieces in which opposite color pieces can’t be placed. This adds a bit advantage to put your piece in the opponent’s territory. The game is entirely based on the layout. You can play as you want. There are no restrictions. At the backside of manual you can choose from Classic, Dynasty and Imhotep layouts. You can place the keys as shown in the images of manual. To explain you the placement in simple way I had created a separate image below. You can find that in the below layout.

    Khet 2.0 Board Layout

In the above image you can see pieces arrangement in Classic Layout, Dynasty and Imtohep layout. Each new layout brings more challenge to beat the opponent. You have to place the Pyramids in such a way that when you release the laser it must hit on the backside of all Pyramid Pieces, at the left/right side of Anubis and on any side of Pharaoh. This game has a strategic movement. Some game can be easily won through rotating the pyramids. There are thousands of possibilities through simple adjustment. The Sphinx is the only piece which remains locked at the corner. It just moves to the left or right to release the laser and you have to move the Pyramid one step at time to achieve your goal. You can move that in any direction.

    Khet 2.0 Board Layout

The pieces are made up of durable plastic. Remember not to drop the pieces with glass from height. On board there are 10 reserved spaces of different colors. This is to restrict the movement. The board looks durable and bit heavy also. You can place it comfortably anywhere.

    Layouts:

Placement is everything that matters in Khet 2.0. Each piece has single move only. This extends the game time. Pyramids are free to move on the board, while Scarab can only exchange place with other piece. The motto here is to hit the Pharaoh and the game is over. Below you can see a simplified version of the layouts. It is not necessary that you follow these layouts, you can create your own if you want to understand this game more properly. Complex layout requires more thinking.

    Re: Khet 2.0 Laser Game

    Gameplay of Khet 2.0:

To begin you have to first understand the rules. The silver ones always start first and then according to that red ones start to move. Sphinx remains fixed at the board corner. It is a two player game due to which you have two Sphinx with laser with firm location at the edges. They can only rotate. The pyramids are used as defense. They are used to block the laser and change its path. They can be strategically used to hit other pieces on the board. Remember that even if you accidently hit your pieces with laser, that thing is out of the game. So play slowly. You can begin with the classic layout in which the Pharaoh lays with Anubis on the top and bottom side. Scarab is placed in center further surrounded by Pyramids. You can virtually think about the laser path where it will travel and where it is going to hit. The motive here is to hit the Pharaoh. But it is protected. So you have to move by removing Pyramids and Anubis. Scarab has dual mirror due to which they are immune to all laser attack. At some point even rotating the pyramid will be enough to hit a key. You must begin with finding the most vulnerable pieces on the board. The one that can be easily hit from the back. For example under classic layout the Pyramid kept on the 4th column in 3rd row from bottom is the most vulnerable. All you have to do is bring the silver pyramid (2nd column 3rd row) to the backside and rotate the Sphinx. This will take two moves at least.

    Khet 2.0 Game Strategy

Just take care about the Scarab. They are easy reflectors. Under Classic layout the Pharaoh is on direct target or Scarab. All you need to do is kick out Anubis and then you can use the pyramid to wipe out Pharaoh. But this is not so easy if there is an experienced player in front of you. Overall Khet 2.0 is an amazing strategy game. Through this you can have quality time with your family. It is suitable for all ages. Chess on the other hand looks a more serious game, while Khet is simple, entertaining replacement for it. The game is catchy. Anyone who sees it for the first time will surely get attracted towards it. The game emphasizes on finding more alternative path to save your pieces. Khet 2.0 gives endless opportunity of creating various layouts of your own choice. The best thing you can do to teach your kids is to start with minimal pieces. Tell them the rules and go ahead by adding a new piece every time until the entire board is full. This thing is not possible in Chess, because it’s identical rule worldwide. You can also use opponent’s pieces to hit the pharaoh.

    Conclusion:

Khet 2.0 is an award winning game. It comes for Rs.2,700. It is an amazing game for all ages. It is also ideal to carry for vacation and picnics. Khet shows us how much improvement can be done to a board game. This two player games gives us a competitive gameplay environment in the most creative way. The board design comes with endless possibilities depending on the power of your thinking. You compete with others showing them how sharp you are. The game features simple game play that can be easily understood by anyone. The only problem with this game is that it is not as common as Chess. If you lose any pieces from it you cannot find a replacement easily. The game comes with set of only 26 pieces. I was expecting more additional pieces here because it is common with small kids to break or to lose the piece easily. The game also gets useless if the laser stops working. It entirely relies on the Sphinx piece. The cost is high here only because there is only one set of pieces provided in the package. There must be additional pieces which can be used as a replacement for lost pieces.

    Pros:
    • Unique Board Game
    • Good for all ages.

    Cons:
    • Only Single set of game pieces.
    • Mirror pieces can be damaged if fell from height.
