HTC EVO 3D Smartphone with 4.3-inch qHD screen and 1.2 GHz dual core processor

    Introduction

The HTC EVO 3D is still one of the best smartphone models from which we can capture photo and display it in 3D or view them without any glasses. The EVO 3D is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 1.2GHz dual-core processor, together with the HTC Sense 3.0 UI and Android 2.3.4, for better speed of the device. Already at a market price of 471.40 US$ (without contract, shipping and depending on the provider), the phone is available in black color. The interior has been enhanced with many smart features, high speed, and a crystal-clear, high-resolution display. With excellent browsing options, 5 MP camera resolution and the HTC Sense 3.0 technology rounds out the feature set. Touch keys provide quick access to the menu. Other features, such as a built-in memory of 1 GB and memory expansion via Micro SD card support up to 32GB (included is a 8GB memory card), Hi-Fi audio technology, dual 5 MP camera with LED flash (either 2D or 3D mode), Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi, score points for the EVO 3D. In addition, you can also easily download applications from the Google Play market-place, and thus expand its apps category. How does the EVO 3D behaves in everyday use shows our review.

    Processing Features

The design of the HTC EVO 3D touch screen phone is modern and timeless. The matte rubberized back of the phone finish like most of the anti-slip structure, occupy the two lenses of the 3D camera. Even the integrated speaker is placed at the back of the smartphone. Having a dimension of 126.1 mm x 65 mm x 12.05 mm and weight of 170 grams (including battery), it is not the lightest or the most compact device, but still fits easily into trouser or shirt pockets. The qHD resolution display with a 10.9 cm wide screen provides 16.7 million colors with a resolution of 540 X 960 pixels, which is very clear and sharp. The battery compartment cover of the EVO 3D is made of textured plastic and can be opened and closed by gently lifting, and sitting precisely, only small gaps are visible. The touch buttons on the bottom as well as the touch screen, reacts quickly and accurately. With a push button, the camera mode to switch from 2D to 3D mode can be allowed, in addition, there is a well-calculated trigger button for the camera. At medium volume, the voice playback sounds minimally covered, but is still natural. Even while the speaker is turned on, the voice reproduction is still quite authentic and understandable.

    4. Battery life (with normal use) - In normal use up to about 2.5 days. If data connections are used extensively, especially WLAN and Bluetooth, the battery life drops rapidly to a little over for one day. Same is the case when using the 3D display for games such as Speedx 3D, etc.

    5. Opportunities for entering new contacts - Select Photo: Album, Camera, Contact Type: Google, SIM, phone, name: name prefix, name suffix, first name, second name, last name, phone: Mobile, Home, Work, Fax (Home), Pager, Other, Custom; Email: Private, Professional, Other, net call, group: family, favorites, friends, colleagues, VIP; events: birthday, anniversary, Other; Chat: AIM, Windows, Yahoo, Skype, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, Postal address: Private: Street, City, State, Zip; Professionally: Street, City, State, Zip; Other: street, city, state, zip code, company/organization: Professional: business, position, Other: Companies that position; notes, alias; website; save.

    7. Built-in voice recorder (Dictaphone) - Rename, Delete, Send: Bluetooth, Gmail, Mail, Message, Set as ringtone, settings: Note on renaming, encoding format: AMR, AAC_LC; Playback of the recording sounds very natural and not at all distorted. A slight metallic sounding noise has to be taken into account.

    8. E-mail functionality - Microsoft Exchange Active Sync, GMail, Yahoo! Mail, Windows Live Hotmail, Other (POP3/IMAP). Setting up standard email accounts is done in few steps. It is also possible to create multiple e-mail accounts. The EVO 3D puts all of the emails in one inbox, so you can always see all those in a single view. It can also be sorted by importance, groups or content. The downloading of emails including attachments takes hardly any time, depending on data connection. The presentation is very sharp and clear, thanks to the high resolution display. The EVO 3D has no problems displaying the standard formats and PDFs as well.

    9. Internet functionality - Selected web pages load pretty fast and take no notable time. The view of the pages is very clear and is also quite elaborately presented by EVO 3D. The zoom function facilitates easy reading, as well as complex arranged pages can be viewed easily. Saved pages are clearly displayed as bookmarks and can be then retrieved at any time. The settings for page content and security are pretty straight forward. Via the personal Wi-Fi hotspot, that can be activated directly in the short settings, the Internet connection can be wirelessly shared with multiple devices. The exact configuration is done in the "hotspot settings", here a name and of course a WPA encryption of the constructed network can be set.

    10. PC synchronization - The EVO 3D is detected without any problems on your PC. It is possible to select whether the mobile phone should be charged only, or synced only or it should be connected to the Internet via a PC. Synchronization goes very smoothly if a Google account is available. If it is not the case, then you must first have an account with Google in order to synchronize contact and calendar data. Photos or music, however, can be easily moved (without account). A USB data cable is supplied.

    11. More features - Adobe Reader, Stocks, call list, Asphalt 6 3D, Dockmodus, downloads, ebook, Facebook, FM Radio, Friend Stream, Gmail, HTC Hub, Latitude, Lets Golf2 3D, Locations, Maps, Market, News, Navigation, News & Weather, Peep, Places, Polaris Office, Calculator, Quick Search, SIM Toolkit, SoundHound, Voice Recorder, Voice Search, Google Search, Talk, flashlight, task manager (shows all open applications), Twitter, Transfer (synchronization of calendar, contacts or messages from another phone), Clock: desk clock, world clock, alarm clock, stopwatch, timer, Affiliated Media, Weather, Wi-fi, YouTube.

    12. Business Results - This quad-band smartphone with its 1.2GHz processor provides mobile data connection, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 for fairly straight forward data transmissions that are not to be criticized. The battery lasts for maximum 2.5 days and that is acceptable for a phone with these features. The calendar functions are standard. Three profiles are pre-installed in the EVO 3D. New contacts can be quickly created or edited. A memo is not integrated, but here we can create free apps from the Android Market help. The voice recorder has indeed no great extent, but it still provides useful results. Email accounts are set in a few steps and getting the mail or notes is done depending on the size very quickly. If multiple email accounts are created, a color sorting is done automatically. Finding and opening complex web pages on the EVO 3D phone isn't a problem and accepts no notable time. It is recommended to create an account with Google in order to synchronize contact details on the EVO 3D automatically. It is also possible to exchange data such as contacts, calendar entries or messages from any previous phone to the EVO 3D via Bluetooth. This process was done completely error free, but a prerequisite is that the existing mobile phone should be supported. The HTC has a wide range of different features, which makes it seem even more interesting. A variety of apps from the Google play market are available (both free and fees-based) to customize or personalize the EVO 3D.

Memory expansion via Micro-SD cards support up to max. 32GB and is located under the battery cover

Re: HTC EVO 3D Smartphone with 4.3-inch qHD screen and 1.2 GHz dual core processor

    Multimedia Features

    1. Camera equipment - Two 5 MP camera with dual LED flash; Mode: camera, video camera, camera switch, flash on, off, automatic, Effects: No effects, grayscale, sepia, negative, solarize, posterize, aqua; settings: Self-timer: Off, 2 seconds, 10 seconds; Image Adjustments: Exposure, Contrast, Saturation, White Balance: Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy, ISO: Auto, 100, 200, 400, 800; resolution: 5M (2560x1440), 3M (2048x1152), 1M (1280x720), Small (640x368); Review after capture: No view, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, no limit; Widescreen: Resolution: 4:3 (standard photo size) 16:9 (widescreen), provided with Geotag Photos: on/off; Auto Enhance: on/off, auto focus: on/off, face detection on/off, shutter sound: on/off, grid: on/off, restore default; Finishing options: Set as: favorite, Footprints, wallpaper, contact icon, Slideshow, player select (for this feature Fi access is required to use media server network) printing, point on map, details: file path, date, size, resolution, type, status, manufacturer, model, Send via: Bluetooth , Facebook, Facebook for HTC Sense, Flickr, Gmail, Mail, Message, Peep, Picasa, Twitter, delete.

    2. Camera quality - The shapes and colors in low light conditions and indoors during daylight hours were presented excellently by the EVO 3D with the 2D mode. Viewed on a PC, it even convinced with color intensity. Even with the 3D mode all the colors were captured. The sight of a 3D photos, however, resembles the "lenticular images". At dusk and/or at night, this phone can achieve good results with the double flash. The color will only lose a bit of intensity and acts partly overexposed, if you go too close to the subject. But the result is still very noticeable and useful especially. It is up to the user to decide if they want to receive 2D or 3D photos by choosing the freely selectable mode. Additionally, photos and videos via DLNA can be transferred to the TV or computer.

    3. Video Camera Equipment - Supported video formats: 3gp, 3g2, mp4, wmv (Windows Media Video 9), avi (MP4, ASP and MP3), xvid (MP4, ASP and MP3) Playback: 3gp, video camera change, Image Adjustment: Custom: Exposure, Contrast, Saturation: -2 to +2, White Balance: Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Daylight, Cloudy, video quality: HD (1280x720), qHD (960x540), High (640x480), Low (320x240), MMS (176x144), Online (HD 10 minutes); Review after capture: on/off, Record with Audio: No view, 3 seconds, 5 seconds, no limit on/off, shutter sound: on/off, Reset Defaults, Video Light: on/off, effects: No effects, grayscale, sepia, negative, solarize, posterize, aqua, Finishing options: Set as favorite, Send via: Bluetooth, Facebook for HTC Sense, Flickr, Gmail, Mail, Message, YouTube, delete, set as favorites; player, select Details: file path, date, size, duration, type, status.

    4. Video Quality - In daylight and normal lighting conditions great colors are shown on the EVO 3D. Adapting to different lighting conditions is also possible. If you make quick or sudden movement, the videos would become somewhat pixelated. With fluid movements, it achieves really good results. But in enclosed spaces the images seem slightly out of focus and diminished. In the darkness it can also get good results with the switchable video light. Videos on the large 10.9 cm display of the phone is shown quite comfortably. The sound from the recorded video clips, unfortunately, sounds a little metallic and tinny.

    5. Features of the built in music player - Audio formats: aac, amr, ogg, m4a, mid, mp3, wav, wma (Windows Media Audio 9), forward, rewind, pause, stop; My Library: Artists, Albums, Playlists, All Songs, Genres, Composers, Bought; album art update, Add to Playlist, YouTube (Search), Player (wireless access is required to use this feature), select Sound Enhancement: No effects, SRS enhancement, Equalizer (headphones): bass boost, treble gain, voice amplification, Blues, Classical, Country, Jazz, Latin, New Age, piano, pop, R & B, Rock; Send via: Bluetooth, Gmail, Mail, Message, set as ringtone, Shuffle : on/off, Repeat: Repeat all, Repeat one; details: length, filename, title, artist, album, genre, composer, disc number, track number, year, location.

    6. Sound quality of the music player - Although the speaker was positioned at the back of the mobile phone, still it has enough power to easily make all songs sound perfectly. An equalizer is also equipped in the EVO 3D, which unfortunately can only be used in connection with the headset. Fine tuning can be done with some songs that sound like something overloaded at maximum volume or have more bass activity. With DLNA support, it is possible to stream media directly from your phone to the TV or computer.

    7. Radio yes/no, sound quality of radio - Sound on/off, mono/stereo, headset/speaker, search and store, all favorites: delete, rename, station names may be added by renaming. The EVO 3D was immediately able to recognize over 15 stations. The efficiency depends slightly on the interpretation of the antenna (headset). If you put the mobile phone on a table, you will barely hear or will hear scraping noise.

    8. Storage/location of the memory card - 1 GB internal memory and expandable with a micro-sd card up-to 32GB. The location of the memory card is under the battery compartement cover.

    9. Multimedia Results - The camera of the EVO 3D is easy to use. One can easily choose between 2D and 3D modes. It also has useful settings and the shutter lag takes very little time to complete. The results of dual 5 MP camera scores points here with their excellent results. Without glasses, it is also possible to look at 3D photos. The results of the video recording is also impressive, if you avoid fast movements. In the darkness of the viewfinder it is not able to identify a motive, although it can get results, but they are presented slightly out of focus. The built-in MP3 player is easy to use and sounds very natural, thanks to SRS virtual surround sound with a speaker positioned on the back. If you use a headset or headphones with a standard jack, you can also enjoy the equalizer. Not really necessary, but with songs that have a bit more bass activity, it is partially sometimes useful. Also, the integrated radio surprised us with faster tuning. Frequencies can be added easily by renaming. The EVO 3D has no character limit, as some of the mobile phone do. The HTC has 1 GB of internal memory and is expandable up to 32 GB via a micro-sd card. The insertion of the micro SD card is located under the battery cover.

    Handling / Menus

    1. Contact Details, Handling and other Features - Depending on the application, the EVO 3D can be operated with one hand. Contact information is found quickly, and similarly edited or added. A call can be performed easily. The 3D touch-screen display in sunlight or direct light still can be read good. The responsiveness of the touchscreen runs precisely and accurately. The modern menu of the EVO 3D is equipped with useful menu items. These are unfortunately not readily apparent at first glance. Seven homescreens facilitate quick access to the menu, which you can also personalize or easily populate with desired apps. The camera, with its selectable mode, and the MP3 player is easy to use and likely to overwhelm anyone to handle. The EVO 3D can read memory cards up to 32 GB. Creating your own folders and moving data is done very smoothly.

    2. Message handling - Settings: Notifications: Receive alerts: on/off, Play notification sound: on/off, notification sound, vibrate, Sent Mail: Send notification: on/off, error notification: on/off, Play notification sound: on/off, notification sound, vibrate, message window, Show: Only Sent success, Only Sent Failed, Delivered successful and error, No, SMS: Delivery reports: on/off, support center, messages on your SIM card; MMS: Delivery reports: on/off, read report: on/off; Auto-retrieve: on/off; Automatic roaming call: on/off, priority setting: Low, Normal, High, Maximum message size: 100K, 200K, 300K, Value: View Sent Messages, Call History View, Show e-mail address, message preview : 1 line, 2 lines, 3 lines, memory setting: delete old messages, maximum number of messages, maximum number of multi-media messaging, message forwarding: To phone number forward, forward to an email address, signature: Signature: on/off; Signature use, to group message; Writing: Search contacts, all messages, short text, attachments: images, video, audio, application recommendation, location, contact (vCard), appointment (vCalendar), Discard, Add subject, More: search options: Shipping Options: SMS settings: delivery reports: on/off, MMS settings: delivery reports, read report: on/off, Priority setting: low, normal, high, settings for language and keyboard: Select Language: Cestina, Danish, German, English (United Kingdom Language), English (United States), Spanish, Spanish (Estados Unidos), French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, etc; Touch Input settings: keyboard types: Standard, phone, compact, International keyboard (languages); Bilingual prediction (languages), Chinese text input, instructions, keyboard tracking, personal dictionary, messages such as SMS/MMS or emails can be written easily with the QWERTY keyboard in portrait or landscape format.

    3. Reading from memory cards - The reading of Micro SD cards will be done smoothly. Existing data from the memory card can be read without any problems. The EVO 3D represents almost all types of data and has little problem when playing them.

    4. Results - The HTC EVO 3D is, in our view, definitely not a beginner Android phone. Certainly one or the other users, will take more or less time to get settled. Running a call, adding contact information, as well as the readability of the display in low light conditions, speak for the EVO 3D. Messages, on the qHD display, whether written in portrait or landscape format, are fast with the different keyboard types. The menu has a fashionably designed, but slightly confusing extent. The main menu has been improved, but unfortunately not as an overview of perhaps one or two hopes. Alternatively, we recommend to place your preferred menu items on the home screen. Also there are often selected menu items under "Frequently". Memory card can hold up to 32 GB space in EVO 3D and can be read quickly and smoothly. Data where the size or type supported here are presented without objection. The insertion of the memory card is located under the battery cover. Moving your data can be done easily.

The EVO 3D is equipped with sensor buttons

    Overall conclusion

The HTC EVO 3D offers an extremely good and very interesting features including recording and displaying 3D photos. The appearance of the smartphone will not necessarily win design awards, but impresses with its timeless appeal and the grippy textured back. The two 5 MP cameras have a dual LED flash and in daylight it can convince with great snapshots in either 2D or 3D. The video recording at HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels) exhibit an almost pixel-free representation and fluid movements in normal lighting conditions. In darkness it still scores decent, but not above average results. The 7 home screens of the EVO can be easily and individually populated with desired applications. The internal music player, like usual HTC phones, has timeless graphic, easy operation and good sound. Although the speakers are positioned on the rear, songs play tuneful. The equalizer can be used here as well in order to fine-tune the songs, but this can only be used in conjunction with a headset. The integrated radio with good antenna selectivity scores with effective sound. On the 4.3-inch qHD resolution display Internet pages load quickly and are displayed in high resolution. Whether in portrait or landscape orientation, excellent readability is guaranteed by the Zoom feature. Various email accounts can be configured quickly and sorted by color. The response of the touch screen is to be considered very positive which responds quickly and accurately. In the price range from $471, the EVO 3D phone can be presented as a more reliable companion for the demanding user.

You can tap between 2D View or 3D View to switch between viewing in 2D and 3D photos that you have captured by HTC EVO 3D, it is the one of the main fuctions of this phone. However, the HTC EVO 3D shoots 3D images in only 2 megapixels and not in 5MP which is inbuilt in the device, it can be only used for 2d shooting modes.
