Introduction

The Huawei Honor is a restrained, elegant and a modern touch screen phone. The smartphone works with an Android 2.3.6 operating system (that can be updated to 4.0 ICS which is planned in July) and has a 4-inch Super Clear LCD screen and is available for 239€ (depending on provider) in black or white color. It has a 8 MP camera with various features and settings. A 1.4 GHz Single Core processor powers this smartphone. How does the Huawei Honor works in practice, reveals our review.

Processing Features

The design of Huawei Honor is non intrusive but chic and timeless in design, especially in white color, that is used in our review. The back cover is made of smooth plastic with a slight metallic effect. The front side of the phone is provided with a silver frame. With dimensions of 122 x 61.5 x 10.9 mm and weighing in at only 140 grams, it sits comfortably on any hand. The 4-inch Super Clear LCD touchscreen provides 16 million colors with a resolution of 854 x 480 FWVGA pixels. The battery cover can be opened by lifting, and also can be closed easily. The Huawei Honor package includes a manual, charger, headset and USB cable. Any standard headphones can be connected to the Honor phone.

There is a very little background noise. Nevertheless, the person on the other end of the line can still be heard with great joy.

Nevertheless, a plus point for the Huawei Honor U8860 is its built-in voice recorder, because not many smartphones have it.

8. E-mail functionality - Connection type: POP3, SMTP and IMAP4. Email accounts can be set-up quicklyand it is also possible to enter multiple accounts. The Honor has no problems downloading emails and requires hardly any time. The speed surprised us, and thus brings advantages for the smartphone. With attachments, such as images, etc., the Honor also has no problems by diplaying them since on a 4 inch screen, it is very clear. Attachments which are slightly larger, sometimes need more download time, but it is quite bearable.

9. Internet functionality - Selected websites are loaded quickly from Honor. Also elaborately designed pages are displayed quickly and require only a short loading time. There is no stuttering either. The zoom function facilitates the viewing of pages even for the elaborately designed complex pages on the web. Content such as pictures, letters or small texts, can be read easily and also can be increased in size. Bookmarks or saved windows are arranged in a clear view and are readily available. The security or privacy settings can be also easily managed and adapted to individual needs.

10. PC synchronization - The Honor is recognized very quickly once it is connected to the PC. The mobile phone can of course be charged or connected to the Internet via the PC. The synchronization runs very smoothly. Photos and music can be moved, of course without a Google Account. A USB data cable, which also serves as a charging cable, is included.

Calendar, audio settings and contacts correspond to the Android-standard and can be used sufficiently. In addition, several additional applications such as Documents To Go, Latitude, notes and many more comes pre-installed with the device.

2. Camera / Video Quality - The camera of the Huawei Honor gives average results. Overall, the phone scores with dynamic colors in normal light conditions. Quick snapshots and photos in between can be easily usable. The video-capture images are rather weak and supposed to record at 720p that appear to be of much worse quality than we're used to with other phones. Even in the dark it cannot convince or give much results, in spite of the existing video light.

3. If the mobile phone is turned over, you can hear a slight difference. The high-and medium-range music sounds authentic. The Honor also has an equalizer, which can be used but only by connecting it with a headset or headphones.

The Honor has no character limit so the complete station name can be entered. The menu of the radio is clear and not overwhelming. The selectivity depends on the design of the antenna (headset / headphones). When moving, unfortunately you will notice scratching.

5. Memory Storage Capacity / position of the memory card - 4 GB inbuilt memory which can be expandable to 32 GB of memory card and the slot is located next to the SIM card under the battery compartment cover.

6. Multimedia Results - The camera of Honor mobile phone has no separate camera release button and can only be operated by the touch. The results of the 8 MP camera, unfortunately, is not very convincing. Colors are strong, however, not realistic and somewhat distorted. In the darkness, despite of having a video light, no good results are achieved by the video camera. For snapshots and short clips, the camera is in perfect order. A headset is included. A radio, with 40 station presets, scores points here. The Huawei Honor has an internal memory of 4 GB, which is already full with 1.5GB internal software and firmware. However, it can be expanded with Micro SD memory cards up to 32GB.

Handling / Menus

1. Contact details and features - Contact details (from SIM, Google or device memory) are quickly found, edited, or added, and a call can also be performed easily. The 4-inch display in direct sunlight or direct light can be easily read by making appropriate display setting. The response of the touch screen is precise and nimble. The beautifully designed menu of Honor is equipped with sensible menu items. It can be customized according to your needs, facilitating quick access to the selected menu item. The home screens, which can be easily fit with desired apps, are presented in a beautiful look. The 8 MP camera and the MP3 player can also be quite easy to use.

3. Results - Phone calls, adding contacts, or even the readability of the display, speaks for the Honor phone. Messages can be typed fast with the keyboard's different methods. The home screens are presented in a nice appearance and can easily be equipped with self-selected shortcuts. The camera and MP3 player are easy to operate and are worth mentioning as well.

Overall Conclusion

The Huawei Honor can be a quite extensive equipment at a fair market price. The acceptable size and low weight of the device should not go unmentioned here. The processing is also solid, despite the plastic casing, that Huawei has of a very high quality, though small bumps on the battery compartment cover can be seen. The 8 MP camera has a flash and can be useful for snapshots in low light conditions. The video recordings, unfortunately, is not particularly convincing. The home screens can be customized easily on the Huawei Honor with the desired menu items. Also, it has convinced us for the relatively fast internet page loading with good representation on the 4-inch screen. The response of the touch screen is also precise and fluid. In its price range, the Huawei Honor is definitely a good-to-go-for mobile phone in the middle-class league.
