    Meego Mobile Operating System

Meego is a mobile operating system born from the meeting of Maemo (Nokia) and Moblin (Intel). This OS has recently become available in version 1.2, a version that will fit easily in multiple markets. I think most readers are aware that this is the joint development of Nokia and Intel, focused primarily on the Tablet, MID and netbook. MeeGo based on Linux, is open source code (open source) and is free software that can be independently download and install it (for free) and get in the already finished product (such as a netbook or nettop). Direct predecessors MeeGo - mobile operating system Maemo, developed by Nokia (Maemo can be seen on a smartphone Nokia N900), and aimed at netbooks with Intel Atom OS Moblin, created under the wing of Intel. In February 2010, it was announced that the two operating systems combined, and the result of the union as time was running MeeGo.

Some manufacturers will not only offer terminals MeeGo, but they will also fit their own needs, see the blend in their own projects. A mode of operation contrasts with that of Android, where access to the 3.0 version of the OS is at the mercy of a single player, Google, which has the power of life and death on the shelves manufacturers. In many ways, Meego is close enough for a project like LiMo, which also combines multiple independent participants within a consortium open.

    Interface:

The evolution of Maemo has been much talk about whether it would be Nokia's biggest bet, and after knowing that, and it would be Windows Phone, Meego is transformed into what was Maemo, an open community created to experiment in many fields related to mobile devices. Version 1.2 is Meego Harmattan.

The operating system is loaded very fast. The first thing you will see after boot - almost empty desk on which there are only three elements: a promotional video MeeGo, an area with multiple applications and icons section, which shows the scheduled meetings and tasks. The desktop is very different Myzone and poor functionality: you cannot easily locate icons, you cannot pull out the folder, it is impossible to organize applications in folders (like in Apple iOS). The most offensive that cannot get away from this miserable movie.

You will have three main screens:
    • Applications screen.
    • Display of recent applications or multitasking
    • Social networks screen

Although the number of applications depends on developers, the part with the Nokia N9 Nokia Maps application, formerly called Ovi Maps, plans actually date. It also has social networking applications and some games already installed, like Angry Birds or Galaxy on Fire 2.

    MyZone

It is assumed that Myzone will be automatically filled with new applications, and display the status of social networks and the latest open your web page. But the idea is implemented is not very good - any real help from it is almost there. Furthermore, the netbook, which is the mouse, I want more freedom than it gives Myzone. That is, it is clearly focused on smart phones and tablets, but not for netbooks. The orientation of the MID say and the rest of the interface OS interface explicitly created under finger control that, on the one hand, the good (where do without finger control on mobile devices?), On the other side - the question is: what are the advantages of this system netbooks compared to, say, with Google Android. And anyway, is it possible to create a universal operating system, it is equally convenient and on a netbook with a traditional mouse control or its imitation of the trackpad, and sensory devices. MeeGo (at least in the current version) does not possess such universalism and, therefore, the answer to this question does not.

But look at other features of the OS interface. In general, the interface is organized on the principle of inclusion. On top we see a panel on which the icons that represent the tab: Myzone, Zone, Applications, Status, Humans, Internet, Data, Device, Bluetooth, Network, Time and date and battery indicator. Since we already dealt Myzone, Zone - a tool for open applications (displays thumbnails of all running applications and lets you switch between them), Applications - a catalog of all the installed applications.

    Applications

Since MeeGo is a system with open source software, available for any changes and extensions, a set of applications in different assemblies is different. In the version installed on the netbook MSI, it just was not there. But it was puzzling application MSI profile, which proved to be just a label for a video touting MSI.

However, the main components in all assemblies should be the same: a browser Chromium, an office suite OpenOffice.org, the mail client Evolution, the various IM-clients, the Player Banshee. In general, applications that is very popular in Linux-environment and familiar to most users of the systems on based on Linux. So, obviously, MeeGo not too far removed from its foundation. Does this mean that it will suit the programs written for other distributions of Linux.

Unfortunately, the program requires however small, but still optimize for MeeGo. "Advanced" Linux users can experiment with the installation of some Linux-applications through the Terminal (which is located at Applications / System and managed by traditional Linux commands). But one must know the password for the system. If you install MeeGo from scratch, then the password and the name of the computer asking yourself, if you have already installed, you need to know. In the case of a system that was installed on the netbook MSI, we have not been able to guess the password.

    Social Networking Support

Following the fashion for the integration of social networking software, the developers made it possible to upload MeeGo news from popular social services, and blogs. Russian developers did not facilitate their life and social networks have expanded the list of American popular domestic resources - OpenID, My World@Mail.Ru and LiveJournal (LJ). But MeeGo incorrectly displays many of the reports and virtually all graphics and video sequences.

    Swipe Feature:

By turning on the phone, once past the startup screen, you get a first home screen. Yes I did say "first," I will return soon. This first screen, so, list the installed applications. Applications that will be installed from the Ovi Store. No menu or group here, just a vertical list that you can scroll through at your leisure. Phew, for our comfort, they provided the ability to move applications for example in the first place the most used.

A little bit of "swipe" from the left and a second screen appears. This is the screen events, which lists the notifications as well as your social networks (Facebook and Twitter are the party) that calls, SMS, chat and RSS feeds. These notifications will also appear on the lock screen when a "swipe" from one of them will launch the corresponding application.

Once more the swipe and arrive on the third (and final) screen: the tasks. Yes, Meego is like the Maemo was fully multi-tasking, and is also the N9. Appear on the screen the last 9 applications in use when returning to the forefront with a single click. To see more, just logically scroll vertically.
To return from an application at the last home screen where you were, it is still the swipe that comes into play: a simple swipe from one side of the screen you back. With a very nice small effect: during the swipe it can be seen next to the current application and the home screen. Note that although the swipe is the basis of navigation, multi-touch is managed in applications that support it, such as pinch to zooming the browser but also in the task list, to see four applications instead of 9. Note also that a swipe from the bottom of the screen displays a Quick Launch: phone, camera, browser and search.

    Applications:

In terms of applications available, all those put forward in swipe.noka.com seem out:
    • Vimeo (where we used to see YouTube)
    • Twitter
    • Facebook
    • Skype
    • Foursquare
    • AccuWeather (weather)
    • AP Mobile (release)

    Re: Meego Mobile Operating System

Others are posted on the OVI Store N9 but not currently listed there, impossible to find out more. The integration of social networking seems accomplished: one identification network and everything is transparent on the screen dedicated events, contacts, shared, etc.

Nokia has been much more discreet about the little brother of N9, the N950. We know it will be for developers (250 pieces) that has a keyboard, will be aluminum, will have a lower capacity battery, not NFC. One senses here an evolution of the N900, but no official photo we do this. Shame not to have not merely to offer a version of N9 with keyboard, keeping its specific.

    Nokia N9 Meego

Nokia has finally launched the much rumored Nokia N9 with Meego. It goes on sale this year and is the first with this operating system. This phone has a 3.9 inch AMOLED display (854 x 480) with the coating Gorilla Glass. The glass screen is curved and is integrated with the design. Two versions of 16 or 64 GB of internal memory and both will have 1 GB of RAM. The camera has 8 megapixel camera with dedicated shutter button and can record video at 720p at 30 fps. The lens is manufactured by Carl Zeiss, has a dual LED flash and a second camera for video calls. They have made special efforts in the speed shooting.

The connectivity of the terminal consists of quad chip, Bluetooth 2.1, NFC and GPS, A-GPS, WLAN 802.11abgn, 3.5mm AV output, micro USB. The processor is an ARM Cortex-A8 model OMAP3630 1 GHz supported by a PowerVR graphics SGX530. The battery is 1450 mAh. Finally remark that the material that has made the terminal is a type of polycarbonate was chosen for its good performance to non-interference in the reception. It seems they did not want a new antenna gate like Apple. There will be three colors to choose from, black, cyan, and magenta.

It is clear that Nokia needed something new and fresh and that N9 might be. But do not forget that the course of the Finnish company is now marked by the Microsoft company as partner. But if that is so, and considering that the agreement announced by the inability to launch Smartphone’s Meego quickly, how they have presented before a one Meego Nokia Phone with Windows.

    Conclusion

In general, the first version MeeGo’s impression is interesting and provides promising concept, which still does not recommend a simple user - that is, those for whom purses Nokia and Intel because they want to compete with Google and Apple. Along with many minor bugs and features (which will surely be corrected in the next release of OS) MeeGo sins because here too see the "legacy» Linux, and if "Linux users" is a plus (even all the familiar applications, not to mention the methods work with the system!), then to the general public - a huge minus.

However, the system has prospects, and if you want all the flaws can be quickly corrected. But in order to produce a still a full and compelling product, developers must clearly define, on what audience they are oriented: the enthusiast that will shut down the command sudo shutdown in Terminal, or by user’s iOS and Android. In addition, it would be nice to provide differences in the interface MeeGo netbook nettop and MID. In the meantime, it turns out that MeeGo trying to sit on several chairs. Or chase a few rabbits - with the known result.
