    Samsung BD-P2500 Blu-ray Player

Until the 2009 model year ultra-thin and revolutionary design for this type of device is the final platinum Samsung drives can read Blu-ray High Definition, the BD-P2500. Following the fourth generation Blu-ray, the BD-P2500 has all the technologies needed to enjoy a great show, at home. However, this deck is still affordable since launched at least 400 euros. But is it effective? Is it also equipped with that? Let all these features and impressions during a complete test.

    Taking Hands

Samsung has for several years now a true effort in design. The BD-P2500 deck, if it does not indicate the side plates of the same type, however, offers attractive lines with a frame painted. We appreciate it. The facade looks slightly curved forward. It is very dark and leaves only a few buttons. There is the disc tray, a button to eject, an LCD screen and a button with the four main controls: play / pause, stop, forward and back. It's very simple.

    The connectors :

They are plentiful for this type of device. Indeed, in addition to offering video outputs, the platinum Samsung BD-P2500 also has analog audio outputs 7.1. This links directly to a speaker system. We appreciate it. In addition, you can count on one output HDMI 1.3 compatible Deep Colors, a triple RCA YUV Component video output, an S-Video and stereo analog audio outputs and optical digital.

An Ethernet port lets you connect the turntable to a router or a modem to take advantage of interactive bonus available on certain Blu-ray. A USB socket is also available. You might think it can play audio files, video and photo why not stored on a removable key or external hard drive. Actually, no. This location can store. The bonus is interactive download from the Internet. Some ask for an internal memory for storage or disposal. Thus, the Blu-ray Samsung BD-P2500 has an internal memory of a Go In addition, it will be possible to extend this capability with a USB key that connects via USB.

    Firmware Upgrades

Your new Samsung Blu-ray Disc player won’t be obsolete the moment you bring it home from the store. It’s equipped with an Ethernet connection so you can download the latest firmware upgrade and add new features.

If your player needs more local storage to take advantage of these features, simply plug in a memory stick with at least 1GB of memory into the USB port.

    NetFlix instant streaming ready

Are you a Netflix member? You no longer have to wait by the mailbox to satisfy your flix fix. Instantly stream from a selection of over 12,000 (and growing) movies and TV shows. The number of titles you can stream per month depends on which Netflix subscription plan you choose.

    The menus and settings

The menus are pretty simple although complete. Indeed, they can adjust to better and more accurate picture setting, sound, networking and memory management internally and externally. It is possible to set the display resolution (up to 1080p), set the mode of video frame (24 frames per second) or adjust the audio settings such as the size of the speakers connected to the device via a external amplifier that can not decode HD audio formats or the method of decoding audio tapes.

As for sound, you can pass the tapes DTS-HD Master Audio via HDMI to an amplifier with a decoder for that format. Finally, if you connect the turntable to a computer network to enable access to updates and bonuses available on select Blu-ray, a menu is used to configure the device to fit in network. Thus, we choose the automatic DHCP mode attribute with an IP address for convenience. However, the most demanding can enter a fixed IP address.

The platinum Samsung BD-P2500 offers the image adjustment through two parameters: the accuracy and noise reduction on DVD. These two functions can be set to High, Medium, Low or off. In use, we recommend the settings to Medium or Low risk funds appear too pronounced on certain sequences and characters that do not sound real.

The deck has a USB Host port. We said then that we will be able to enjoy music, videos and photos via this connection but unfortunately it is not. Indeed, this decision serves only to make the updates to the plate. The BD-P2500 can read music only in CD-Audio. The MP3 or WMA files are not accepted. The image files are not read by the player. Only DivX, since one of the last updates are accepted. The resulting video quality is not great and will depend on the quality of original encoding. Note that our first test CD, finalized in Windows Vista has not been accepted by the reader. He had to burn the files using Nero.

    Updates

They can be performed in three ways: via a USB key that contains the new firmware via a CD or DVD or via the computer network and Ethernet jack. The operation takes about 30 minutes. Do not plan to launch it just before watching a movie in the evening, Madame will not be very happy to wait all this time before a progress bar.

The update does not require any special knowledge. Just commit the file or transaction and a few minutes later, the deck turns off by itself. This is a good way to keep a pad day without spending a penny.

    For use

In reading, information flows, the codecs used, etc.. unfortunately are not legion. We appreciate his quick start has nothing to do with the previous models and some decks competitors. Less than 20 seconds to get the first images.

The deck offers the BD Profile 2.0 feature which is interesting. In effect, Blu-ray compatible elements allow you to download the movie or watch online content. Still, the offer is still not widespread and that this function is a bit heavy to use for now (loading time, languages available, clear menus). Remember that this technology is still in its infancy. In general, navigating menus and launching the disc menus is very nice because it does not suffer any slowdown.

In HD, again, the image is of the highest caliber. The sounds are limited and the sublime depths of field. The grains of skin are beautiful and vivid colors. A total show if the original disc is in a hurry, because this is unfortunately not always the case. The film Casino Royale and Ice Age 2 benefit in a display outstanding. Faultless.

    Remote

It is very similar to that of television brand. She is fine and great. It has a button to eject the disc tray at a distance. Always practical. The control buttons of the image (play, pause, forward, rewind, stop, etc.) Are phosphorescent. It is relatively simple to use. It may review briefly a TV with the buttons to change channels, volume, mute, audio / video on / off.

    Conclusion :

For us, it's THE Blu-ray standard in value. At least 400 euro, it offers everything that High Definition audio and video and offers treatments with audio and video available on turntables more expensive and upscale. The updates help to keep platinum in the coup. It provides a perfect image for the Blu-ray, a very pretty picture for DVD and DivX to read the best resolutions currently available: 1080 lines in progressive mode. The most demanding and most affluent look on the side of Pioneer decks that offer a quality comparable with more audiophile components.
