98 Doesn't Like My RAM "Insufficient memory to initialize windows"
I bought a new Dell computer. I bought extra with 1GB RAM for the same and have installed Ubuntu, Windows XP Pro and Windows 98. There was no problem in the installation of any of these operating system. Now Xp and Ubuntu boot and works fine but when I try to run win98, it gets upto boot screen and shows me an error message saying:
Quote:
“Insufficient memory to initialize windows.
Quit one or more memory-resident programs or remove unnecessary utilitiesfrom your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, and restart your computer.
Press any key to continue...”
After lots of troubleshooting, I finally came to know that when I remove the extra 1 GB RAM, windows 98 works fine with the original 512 stick, but it don’t work if place the same. Any idea what could be the problem and how can I fix the same? Thank you.

As far as I read information on web, it seems like windows 98 wont work with more than 512mb of ram. You can get soe more info about all these in the following Microsoft Article:
