I am on Windows XP and after searching a lot on the internet I only found to go into Start > Run and then type shutdown -a. The issue that I am facing is that the computer that I am using shuts down very quickly that I dont have time to stop it? Can anyone tell me some other way out? Thanks.
You can try to boot to 'Safe Mode With Command Prompt' by pressing F8 on after restarting the computer and then run shhutdown -a and then run LOGON. If that still doesnt work, then go through an article called "HOW TO Start System Restore Tool from Command Prompt" here -

It will be good if you can try to create a batch file to run that command and then it will just take a double click on the desktop for you to perform.
Really, all you have to do is create a shortcut on the desktop with the location "shutdown -a"
