Re: IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio
Hi, I am trying to do some clean up and get rid of third-party Internet
utilities, antivirus programs, or firewall programs.
Do I actually need this IDT audio? What exactly is it for? I sure would
appreciate any advice that you could give. Thanks a lot

Re: IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio
Hi, I realize this is a really old issue, but I am having the same one now.
This computer was just converted back to windows from Linux about a week ago.
I reviewed the responses here, and when I went to to do the system restore it
says I had it turned off. Exactly how do I get the audio to work? I've tried
with both the IDT and the Realtek drivers, but everytime I reboot and the
"found new hardware" dialog box pops up and I go through the process of both
automatically and manually installing the drivers, it keeps telling me that
it is unable to start. Do you ahve any suggestions on what I should do?
Re: IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio
:-\ I have been having similar problems with Windows 7 as of today (considering some in this thread use vista I just assumed that I may as well post in the thread that has the exact same problem as I do).
Windows update will go and install this horrible driver update for me that completely removes sound functionality.
It is indeed IDT High Definition Audio Codec, I can't remember the version BEFORE the update.
The only way I have gotten my sound back is by performing a system restore, rolled back to a couple of days ago. However after restarting my system the sound is gone again.
...
(I am actually typing this as I try to fix the problem myself, and I think I may have found what I need, too.)
My computer is a HP Pavilion dv6-2088x laptop, so I looked for drivers specifically from the manufacturer. I am going to try to use those, and also turn off windows update (I never REALLY get anything that I REALLY need outta windows update anyway, IMO.)
Update: getting the OEM driver did not work.
Re: IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio
wow thanks lol that worked for me and i had a fresh install of windows xp
Re: IDT Audio IDT High Definition Audio CODEC took out my audio
How in hell can it work perfectly for one person to get manufacturer drivers and not work at all for another? There is nothing in this thread that worked for me except for system restore back to a time before my driver was updated and then turning off windows update.
I hate this solution because I had to go through hell to convince my university that windows update cripples my computer because their network services require I have it turned on.
