WD passport drive Issue - 160 GB WD
Hello all,
Just joined the community and I hope someone can help me. Before I formated my windows XP my 160GB wd passport external hard drive was working just fine. I had some issues with my laptop and it was beyond my understanding, so i brought it to a computer shop. The guy fixed it and reinstalled windows xp and the computer is not detecting the external drive. Actually when i plug it in , i can see it as a removeable drive but i cannot see it in My computer.... some people told me to assign a letter and a path....but actually i don't have any options for that. It's wierd because i can see it in the device list but i can't access it or even see it in My computer.
Thank you

Well this is a forum for writing device drivers, but you might right click
on "My Computer" go to "Manage" and then choose "Disk Management" if the
drive shows up right clicking on the drive allows you to set the drive
letter.

It sounds like it is not formatted.

Re: WD passport drive Issue - 160 GB WD
You misunderstood Don. He did not say you need to format, he said it, the
drive, is NOT formatted. To rectify the situation you will have to create
and format a partition. Why did your drive go into Nirvana? Good question,
and about the only answer is "It happens", unless the Geek you took things
too did something evil wicked and nasty. You did not indicate he/she/it
getting their grubby little hands on the external drive, so that may the
least likely cause for drive failure. You might find a good buddy that will
allow you plug your drive into their system, back up your data and then
scrub it clean with a new partition on your system.
