Correct way to setup Primary and Secondary DNS
Hi,
Im about to setup a windows DNS, its not AD integrated as we dont have an AD
yet.
My question is when I setup my primary and do a zone transfer to the other
server do I need to add that new server to the Name Servers tab?
Half my cleints point at the primary and half point at the secondary.
I have noted in testing and the current setup that even with just the
primary listed the secondary still updates in the event of a zone change.
Thanks

Yes, I believe this is the case, since when you get the secondary to
pull the zone from the primary, the NS record in the zone for the
secondary server will not get created.
There should be NS records in your zone for each nameserver which you
want authoritative for the domain. I usually do this manually before
running the dcpromo, but I think adding the nameserver to the relevant
tab will do this also.
Thanks.
Andrew.
