SQL server 2005 SP2 fails to install
Installation Failure
Error Code: 0x7342 (for SQL 2005 SP2)
Error Code: 0x643 (for Visual Studio 2005 SP1)
When I try to install SQL 2005 SP2 or Visual Studio 2005 SP1 I get error
messages and the install fails. I have. The current version is SQL Server
9.0.2047. What can I do to solve the problem?

We have the same problem:
MSP Error: 29506 SQL Server Setup failed to modify security permissions on
file c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\ for user *. To
proceed, verify that the account and domain running SQL Server Setup exist,
that the account running SQL Server Setup has administrator privileges, and
that exists on the destination drive.
This account has sysadmin privilege and is a member of the Administrators
group on this computer. I checked this
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916766, but it doesn't help.

RE: SQL server 2005 SP2 fails to install
Glad you finally were able to get a resolution
I still have the same problem ever since the patch was released. The result
is my SQLServer 2005 service does not restart after this patch fails. I have
to manually restart it. Hopefully others will chime in a help us get a
solution.

RE: SQL server 2005 SP2 fails to install
I must specify my steps. One day before successfully patching, this account
haven't sysadmin privilege. After I added this - immediately it doesn't help,
but next day was all OK.
