Adding new DNS server to Win2k3 domain
I have two domain controllers that are also DNS servers in my doman. I am
creating a 3rd server that will eventually replace one of my existing ones. I
tested bringing a 3rd server online in a test environment. I made it a DC and
a DNS server. I configured a new AD integrated primary zone on it and it
wiped out the existing DNS config in the domain. I would like to avoid that
happening on my prdocution domain.
When I install DNS on my new DC, should I setup any zones? Or do I have to
wait for replication completes before I see any zones in DNS?
Also, on my existing DNS servers, do I have to setup zone transfers on the
zones I have defined in order for them to replicate to the new DNS server? Or
will it pull all the information out of AD since they are AD integrated zones?
Thanks for the help.
Re: Adding new DNS server to Win2k3 domain
If you use Active directory integrated zones on the running DNS server, just
install the new DNS server and WAIT. Because of AD integrated zones it will
automatically replicate it. Just make sure that the new server is pointing
to one of the running DNS servers only as preferred DNS on the NIC.
If replication is done you can configure it according to this one:

Re: Adding new DNS server to Win2k3 domain
I wasn't sure where to begin posting. I setting up a new server and trying to stay as basic as possible. Setup Domain and AD with DNS. Added users and computers. For some reason when a user logs in and they attempt to connect to the internet...it asks them to log in to some other domain with a similar root. ie..the domain we chose was corp.alliance.com...the domain we are asked to provide credentials for is bombay.alliance.com. How can we get this resolved. I assume it has something to do with root hints or name resolution, but I just can't get it to go away...Help Please!!

It might be a DNS issue. Can you ping the server? Try to just change the dns of the pc trying to join the domain to the IP of the server. Make sure AD and DNS or installed on the server too. Click start then configure your server. It will tell you if they are installed or not. Also, is the user logging in the desired domain or onto some other domain that is newly created?
