Vista Home Premium - Single User Profile - "user profile cannot be loaded"
Hi all. I am running Vista Home Premium in a Dell Dimension Desktop
which is about 6 months old.
Right from the beginning, we have only ever had one user name to log
into the pc.
Out of the blue after not having anyother problems before , today , I
tried to log in and got the message
"The user Profile Service service failed the logon. User Profile cannot
be loaded"
I have tried to look up on this to sort it out , but all of the
solutions involve logging in under a different admin name - but we do
not have one.
The other solution method I have found is to press F8 when he computer
boots up - but this doesn't take me to any menus on my computer. My
options are to press F2 For Setup Menu and F12 for Boot Menu
F2 takes me to a bios screen , and F12 gives me the following options :
Normal
Bootable Hard Drive
On-board CDROM Drive
System Setup
Hard Drive Diagnostics
Boot To Utility Partition
I thought there might be a way for me to do what I need to do by
booting in cmd prompt or msdos? But I cannot find a way to boot into it.
I can't even find a way to go into safe mode ( assuming I could get into
safe mode? )
Can somebody please help me.
Many thanks

Re: Vista Home Premium - Single User Profile - "user profile cannot be loaded"
F8 results in my case that I can choose from which disk to start and not
the Vista save mode. (pressing F8 every second as soon as you start to
boot). First it costs me a day to get an internet connection (NIC driver
problem). After logging out I have now the problem too "user profile
cannot be loaded"
So, how can I solve easily this trivial login problem?

Hello Wsmaal,
If you have not tried this yet, then it should help you.
'The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be

Yes I have read this before I mailed this forum, but I can't login via
F8 and the alternative (clean install) is for me on this moment a very
bad solution (I upgraded from XP). What I still can do is this *'Startup
Repair - Vista Forums' (http://tinyurl.com/2n6coo)* (boot from CD and
repair your computer (startup repair).

Wouter,
Are you able to use System Restore, from Option Two in this tutorial,
to select a restore point dated before this problem?
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76...store-how.html
If all else fails, then this tutorial will show you how to do a clean
install with a Upgrade version of Vista.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/68...ade-vista.html
Hope this helps,
Shawn

System restore is possible but I fixed a NIC driver problem and I don't
know if the latest restore point includes my fix.. I think that upgrade
from XP to Vista isn't a good idea. Clean install avoids IMHO trivial
problems...
I hope that one of the repair methods will work for me, because with a
clean install I loose my personal data...

Well Wouter,
You could also try a repair (upgrade) install to see if it can salvage
it for you. If nothing else, you should be able to retrieve and backup
any data you want afterwards before doing a clean install.

Wouter,
I'm happy to hear that you almost got it all sorted out. See if this
tutorial can help you with the computer waking up from hibernation mode.
I would look at the BIOS and Network device to make sure that the "Wake
On..." options are disabled.

First solve 'this'
(repeated) problem :-(

First I solved 'this'
problem, last week ;-)
*Before* I upgrade from XP-SP3 to Vista Ultimate I could enter the BIOS
with F2. Now F2 enter the Windows Bootmanager
I don't think that I succeed to implement the power saving options
(which I couldn't either with XP). F.i. in the advanced options of my
NIC (3COM Gigabit LOM (3c940) there isn't an entry
"Shutdown-Wake-on-LAN". I see only "Wake up Capabilities" (is now both)
no option disable..
The only relevant option in the P4P800 Bios (Power menu) is the Power
Management/APM (enable/disable) which is enabled default, but I couldn't
now in the BIOS setup of my system to disable this feature. I don't see
(in the user manual) the *ACPI mode* (*S3* or *S1* is enabled). However,
the command "powercfg -a" results in:
C:\Users\wouter>powercfg -a
The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S1
S3 ) Hiber
nate Hybrid Sleep
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
